9:25 I think Queen Charlotte sucks at being a mom because she gave ALL of her love to George and she is thinking of him 24/7, worrying about him 24/7, etc. She didn't have room in her heart for anyone but George. 😞

Yup! That's pretty much what Brimsley confirmed when she asked if she was a good mother. That everyone loves the king and devotes all of their time to him, including the queen herself.

I have a feeling if their children were actually PRIVY to what she had to go through with their father.....they would have probably grown to have empathy and understanding for their mother and her shortcomings AS a mother.....or maybe even GET OFF THEIR ENTITLED ASSES AND HELP HER!!!!

I have watched this scene way too many times and I still cry every time. I was balling my eyes out with you. No she didn’t go over the wall 😭 to me that phrase also meant “in all this years you never left me” “you are still here” because remember he said that she could leave and that he would let her go 😭. watching this a year later and it broke me again. I want to say that the gentleman who plays the older King George, James Fleet, is truly under-served and doesn't get enough credit. The few minutes he is on screen, he shows us exactly why, even in their older years, Charlotte is still devoted to him. I thought that final scene was exquisitely staged and acted. the juxtaposition of showing them side by side as they are now, then going to each seeing the other as their younger selves -- it was master class! It got me and it still hasn't let me go. Thanks for your review / react. It was great.

Old person here. There is a heavy feminist perspective in Shonda's work. The 70s was the second wave of feminism. As a child of that era. I was very influenced by that decade of unprecedented change. The Bionic Woman was considered the most progressive show of that time. It, & WW / Lindsay Wagner, & Lynda Carter. Were the first women to carry a primetime series. This at a time. When a woman's experience, & perspective. Were thought to be of no value. In terms of interest, or ratings. ( They were wrong ) It rated # 3 in a country that only had three major networks, & no cable. The show was heavily influenced by Lindsay herself. I would love a modern perspective / experience of that series. PS. Charlotte is only one person. Her focus was George. Taking care of him, & his Legacy. That meant ruling as well. The children were lost in the shuffle. She is human.

I loved this episode. So many layers about relationships between friends and family. Also I feel like we forgot that sometimes the best way to support someone is to just be there and show them love. Loved how their relationship showed that. Charlotte was so strong from such a young age. Her and George were meant for one another. Charlottes empathy balances with Georges tenderness. Wish and hope the children get to see that side of her now that she knows how theyve been feeling. Episode 6 wrapped up in such a beautiful way. ❤

Georgie really didn't do his duty because he only stayed with his wife long enough to conceive the Princess Royal. Then he went back to his wild, partying ways. He certainly didn't dig in and commit like his parents. And now his estranged wife is past childbearing age. He could have committed long enough to have a spare.

@@latishabuckner8231 She didn't force any of them to marry against their will or make a political arrangement and ship them off to another country. The heir only became a problem when the line of succession was wiped out with her granddaughter's death along with her baby. That wiped out the next two generations. I think people are being too hard on Charlotte. Just because those grown children are complaining doesn't mean their viewpoint is without bias. They obviously don't spend much time wondering what she is going through with their dad and nation. The idea that a 55 year old man is whining about his mother not caring about his hobbies is screaming Baby Boy to me.

I know this came out months ago, but the Queen definitely struggles with race. She didn't pick Charlotte because she's an ally. She picked her because she was not British. Charlotte was outside of the British ton. She did not want to put George's issues upon a respectable lady of the ton. She was told, Charlotte had "Moor blood," which made it easier to impose the issues on her. She also new that choosing someone from a lesser powerful European country would be an enticing offer to that country. Being aligned with Great Britain. But remember, she was taken aback by how brown Charlotte actually was. But she needed George to have a bride and she felt this was the best option. And in order to make it work, she had to put aside her racial opinions. So she's willing to lean into the "Great Experiment," but that doesn't stop her from worrying about the babies skin color in this episode.

"I will stand with you between the heavens and the earth," Charlotte says to George. "I love you! From the moment I saw you trying to climb over the wall I have loved you desperately. I cannot breathe when you are not near," George says to Charlotte. It's rare that we see a mutual declaration of love, real love - not the heady and steamy passion that passes as love. Both declarations encapsulate the essence of the loved one and confirmation from the other that their love honors who they are. I never get tired of watching this heartwrenching moment. When George meets Charlotte, yes, she is trying to climb over the wall to escape him, her situation. But in their marriage she is trying to climb over the wall he has built to help him escape. Alternatively, she is trying to climb the wall to reach him and stand with him because he cannot escape. I love that the scene is followed by the two of them lying together and he is connecting with their child in her womb. No matter how mad he is, his sacred bond with his wife and his unyet born child are the most real things in George's life. It' a beautiful statement about family.

What makes the ending extra sad, is that this was likely the last time they met. The son, Edward, that is expecting a child is Queen Victoria’s father. Victoria was born in 1819. Queen Charlotte died in 1818, and King George died in 1820. So if the show kind of follows history Queen Charlotte is about to die. So this would one if her or her last visit to him.

Maybe this is obvious to most but when Lady Danbury tells Violet to “leave the hats where they are”, what she’s really saying is to leave the past where it is and not ruin the happy memories they both have of Violet’s father. They wordlessly just kind of drop the subject.

No. no, darling, not sad, some of the most beautiful commitment, over a lifetime, a commitment freely given, a relationship in a whole lifetime built in part on sacrifice, she stayed. She just stayed, she stayed, and his sweet loving mind kept up with her all those years, even if he couldn't be a full partner. It's a lot more than many people get, and it's beautiful in every deep important way. They DID have a happy life, and I don't think she was lonely. My take on Violet's dad is we don't see the aftermath of his decision to dance with Agatha at The Danbury Ball. Her mother is noticeably absent from Lord Danbury's funeral, and Violet and her dad appear to be the only white members of the ton to attend. Considering how her mum was able to get others not to attend the ball prior to the King and Queen attendance, if she got any wind of anything happening between Agatha and him she would have made Agatha's life hell...

Also, okay, I'm just stoned and spitballing here, but with how the Bridgerton universe has this LORE around, like, the basic idea of "King George marrying/loving Queen Charlotte solved racism!" Which sounds like it flattens all the depth out of 'solving' a complex issue like institutional RACISM in a whole society; but then the nuance and pain and falterings and triumphs of the ACTUAL George/Charlotte love story makes it clear to combat the forces of ignorance and bigotry and violence and fear and toxic systems (like the monarchy/class system, like women/wombs being bartered for heirs as property to work alongside the powers of the State and Extreme Wealth, like racism, like mental illness,) there ends up being no easy answer and no direct route to a Happily Ever After. The only antidote to all that harm IS essentially love, but that love is messy and difficult and sometimes misses the mark because humans are human, royalty or otherwise. The choice to put in the work and show up for love, to hold on with all our strength to the positive and support each other in the more difficult moments, is what ultimately brings more justice and peace and healing into our families and communities. Love may conquer all, but the word conquer is important there--it's a battle to be fought, and not easily won, and not without a sacrifice of blood, sweat, and tears. And this sort of parallel theme shows up in Agatha and Violet's arc, reconciling that true love doesn't always unfold perfectly within the bonds of matrimony in this era. Contrasting all the loves that Violet and Agatha found, or didn't, or want to find, and choose for themselves. A lot of folks would sniff at romance novels/TV as light/fantasy/fluff, and parts of them can be (gloriously so!), but this series really brought in just enough of the whomp-whomps of the angsty realities of the human condition to make it hit HARD, and then show that there's nothing weak or flippant about the vulnerability of loving and letting ourselves be loved or seeking the love we are worthy of and desire. Romance can hit as hard as gore-smeared war movies, or even harder. Martin Scorsese claimed that The Age of Innocence was his most violent film, even though all the violence is solely emotional, and he's RIGHT. Step aside, Goodfellas, romance is about to rip these prim and elegant people to shreds.

Oh man you should react to Poldark, it's a lot and it's messy as fuck but it sure is Something. It leans more Grim Historical Drama than Romance Novel (the books were written by a guy in like the 1970s so there's That but the modern TV adaptation tries to...alleviate some of the worser parts. It does not always succeed. But it doesn't shy away from the shittier parts of the late 1700s/early 1800s, similar to the timespans covered in QC and Bridgerton, with a similar focus on one family and their friends/enemies/neighbours/loves.) Season one trailer: kzbin.info/www/bejne/bXKThmmhhrN2hJI (Spoilery stuff if you look at any trailers for seasons beyond the first.)
