I make sure I always wave to scooters. The “who me?” reaction is priceless. Another funny thing is to encounter a group of Harleys. If the first guy waves, they all wave. If he doesn’t, the rest won’t either. Cracks me up.

A lot of scooter riders don't wave. When I was riding a scooter I always waved to everybody. I found that Harley riders waved to me more when I was on the scooter, maybe they felt bad for me on my cheap scooter. lol I had mismatched cheap baggy gear on with a helmet that was 3x too big. lol

When I started riding I wasn’t aware of this “wave thing” but it was a heartwarming feeling to be a newbie on a twisty road and be waved at by all riders. I remember this one time on a twisty, I was riding alone and waved at a group of sportbikes, later that day at the top of the hill I was having a beer and a couple of guys on race leather suits approached and asked if that was my bike? Sure… They recognized I waved at them earlier and explained they didn’t felt comfortable letting off one hand at the corner but wanted to apologize and buy me a beer, riders are such a cool community!!!

Just my own habits but I try to wave at every rider I see coming. It's a real feel good moment to acknowledge and be acknowledged. Sometimes, though, I'm having a thought and not paying attention, taking in the scenery and don't see them, or a driver has me wary and I'd rather not take my eyes off them. So I try to give other riders the benefit of the doubt. Never personal and they must have a reason.

I’ve been on my scooter. I’ve gotten waves from Harley riders. It through me off because I didn’t except it ‘cause of what I was riding 😂. Heck, I’ve had a rider pull up beside me. Started a small talk about how nice it is to ride in this beautiful weather we’re having. Then he said, “be safe out here brother.” Then he took off. I was like, “well got dang. I guess I’am a rider too 🤔😂.”

I feel the same way. I'm with CycleCruza even bicycles get the deuces thrown at them when I'm on my street bike - sportbike lol. Throwing the salute out to bicyclists gets 1 of two reactions, most of them just look at me like I'm crazy, but I've had a few promptly throw it right back. I know when I'm on my bicycle and see a streetbike I throw the deuces out. Just a friendly reminder to stay safe. 2 wheels is 2 wheels. Keeping them (or at least the rear) firmly planted is a priority regardless of whether you have a motor lol.

As a new rider ( started riding in 2018) I would never waive for fear of loosing control of the bike but now with more experience I’m comfortable enough to ride with one hand and give a waive when I pass a fellow rider!

And that is definitely understandable. This is why riders should not get upset when. biker doesn't wave back, often times they are a new rider. Even if they are not a new rider and don't wave back that is ok too. All that matters is I wave and show acknowledgement.

I once had a fellow biker chase me down because I hadn't waved. Screaming at me. I was coming out of a large curve, while going 60. I love fellow bikers. But use your brain. I can see a novice rider a ways off. I don't expect them to loose their death grip on their bike in order to wave at me. Either way it isn't that important.

If I ride past 100 riders, regardless of what type of bike, I get 98 waves. But I also only waved 98 out of the 100 times. Sometimes you just don’t see them until it’s too late. Or, sometimes you’re paying more attention to the shitty part of road in front of you or the unpredictable driver you’ve been behind for 2 minutes. And I always think to myself “man I hope he knows I just didn’t see him in time” I don’t take it personal because there’s been times where I notice someone waved and I didn’t wave back because I didn’t see it in time. So if I wave at a Harley rider and I don’t get a wave back (rare) I assume they didn’t see in time, were in process of switching gears, changing music, OR maybe they just didn’t wave because I’m on a Ninja. If that’s the case, I tell myself they are just mad because they may have a 1200cc Harley but my 09’ 500R would blow them out of the water. 🤣 regardless, I don’t get upset because I can go past hundreds of riders before I get the one who doesn’t wave. No biggie to me!

Yeah for the most part most riders wave. Really, most that don't wave usually ride a cruiser but that is ok. Nobody should take a no wave personal. I wish all riders the best regardless if they wave or not.

I ride a 2014 BMW 1200RT -- I wave to 90% of riders, and admittedly get a little butt hurt when someone doesn't wave back -- the same feeling as someone leaving you hanging on a high five.

Been watching your channel a long time… I’m from Texas, and I’ve heard of this before from you. I ride a Harley springer, Harley street glide, sportster 1200S, CRF 450, Indian FTR, and lately I am on a Honda monkey a lot. I thought maybe I’d get disrespect on the Honda Monkey, but no, every Harley rider still waves, some Goldwingers with all the freakin lights on still don’t and some newbieboy sport bikers still don’t. I know some people are just hanging on for dear life. But mostly Like you said it’s a brother hood where we wave so that the other motorcyclist knows we have their back. A wave is a gift you give. One time I was getting out of football practice and I was waiting at the intersection for the crosswalk light to turn on. A guy in a sportbike was about to turn left and even I was a normal pedestrian did the biker wave and he did it right back. I respect alot of motorcycle riders as normal pedestrian.

My sons bike had to be trailered to the shop. While pulling the trailer a Harley rider gave us a wave as we passed him waiting on a light. It would have been a great day to ride and he actually looked as disappointed as we were it was on a trailer. Safe riding and great video.

I've had Hondas, Harleys, Kawasakis, BSAs and Triumphs and quite frankly I'm not a waver never have been but if I see a rider in trouble I will stop and check to see if help is needed. Waving is fine but I'm not concerned whether someone waves or not!

The wave or nod in the UK is really appreciated. I first started riding on a crappy Honda h100 and was surprised that the big bike riders bothered to wave at me. I always nod or wave at other bikers even cyclist ( I ride those too ) . If I get a nod back it makes me happy but if I dont I just think they are busy concentrating or just new and nervous. Love 2 wheels anyway, feel dead inside when I get into a car lmfao.

Yes it is the same in Belgium and it is really nice to meet others saying hi too. Funny though when I had a scooter hardly anyone waved, since I have had a motorbike I wave at scooter and they seem surprised. Some motorbikes don't but I can often see they are beginners, they try though. Great motorbike community. A lot of friends that have motorbikes love riding in the uk. I keep the wave really simple. I wave at every rider who wears a helmet, regardless of brand, ccs, or number of wheels. I never wave at anyone not wearing a helmet. I will wave at a teenager driving a Subaru with a helmet on before I will wave at a squid on a Harley.

I just got my first bike Tuesday. A guy waved at me. I was too scared to take my hand off the bars going 55. I just nodded back. I gotta tell you, it felt good feeling like I belong to some exclusive club just because I bought a motorcycle. A couple hundred miles later I'm chunking dueces at every biker I see. I wave if I don't have my mind on traffic, and if another rider doesn't wave, it's usually because they didn't see you and were also looking elsewhere. Waving creates a sense of community and connection.

Been riding over 40 years, on and off road. Even back in the day we always waved at each other regardless of want you rode. You would come across a few who didn't wave back ( didnt see you, new riders, just focusing on the road,etc) no biggie. Let it go and ride on. I always thought of the wave as showing respect, sharing the common interest and love of riding. When riding offroad, if your with a group or just a few and you come across other riders coming down the trail/wash in the opposite direction (usually one group will pull off the trail and let the other riders go by)the lead rider will show how riders are behind him by displaying fingers 1,2,3 or so. The last rider passing by shows a fist meaning their the last rider. Its not a perfect system,but it works. Just like road riders, dirtbike riders help each other out, breakdowns, run out of gas on the trail and so forth, because we share the same interest and love to ride! Their are few "snobs" offroad as well, usually KTM riders ( im not knocking all of them, they're usually great people), kinda like some Harley riders on road. That's just way it is. I’ve ridden ,Owned a Jeep , and a British Sportscar in the British cars we acknowledge each other. with a Flick of our high beam lights because they were one of the first cars to put the high beams on the turn signal Stalk and all you have to do is with a finger pull the Stalk back and let go to flash the beams it will even turn them on if your headlights are off in the daytime ,Boaters also give each other the Wave and the Sailboaters and Motorboaters have the same thing as Sport bikes and Harleys i too never cared what side i was on i’m just out to enjoy life and be kind to others

I haven't finished the entire video but I wanted to clarify - the message from bike to bike isnt necessarily a jeep wave but pointing two fingers to the road which means "Keep 2 wheels down" or a reminder to be safe and aware while you're riding 👍

I wave to everybody, trikes included. If I'm at a stop and holding the clutch, I'll throw a head nod in its place. If I don't get waved back, no biggie. I just usually mumble to myself about it for a few seconds then move on. I don't care about it that much. I'm on a 701 SM and almost everyone waves back. There's a lot of other dualsport riders in my area, so they love seeing me (and I them). Other bike types wave back too, sport, touring, adventure, etc. Just the occasional cruiser will leaving me hanging, but most of them are good about returning the wave too.

Neh, who cares. Happens every time I take the bike out. Don't spend the mental energy on worrying about it. I have been riding for over 15yrs and pulled up to a parking lot (yesterday actually) on my toce exhaust clean black 600rr (I've had a few 1000s, overkill for what I do on the street - now 600s seem overkill the older I have gotten lol) and had a kid on what looked and sounded like a 250 (nothing wrong with it) who waved at me as he was putting his helmet on to exit parking lot, and as I waved back a car I didn't see came out of my peripheral and made me pull in the clutch while my right hand was out waving to this kid and I lost balance applying my back brake and had to put my feet down so I didn't drop the bike... looked like a complete newb in front of a newb lol. I have even killed it at a 4 way stop with a cop waiting for his turn haha. This is coming from someone who has been in and out of a few ditches on sportbikes without wrecking and grew up on dirtbikes from 4yrs old. A lot of what could be considered embarrassing stuff WILL happen, don't worry about it.

I recently got a Can Am Spyder and some bikers refuse to wave. I have waved obsessively for almost 40 years of riding. Tourers, sport bikes, cruisers, two wheels, three wheels, scooter, hot chick on a bicycle.............they all get a how-do-ya-do from me. Over time less and less people wave overall. But when I switched from two wheels to three-- the waves have really dropped off. Waving first gets the most 'reflexive' responses from people. But even then I'm batting around 60% waves at the Spyder. Part of that is that it might be hard to see me drop the low wave as the machine is massive. I've taken to raising my hand rather than dropping it low. But it's up to me to initiate the wave. Of course other Spyder riders break their arms waving when they see more of the herd on the road. Where matters. On back roads and around lakes I get lots of waves (if people aren't staring off at the scenery) but on boring roads you just see less social behavior in general. Doing a lap around the reservoir puts people in a better mood than commuting between stop lights. Lastly, I never care and sometimes don't even look to see if they wave back. They might need a grip on the machine, they might be looking at something else, they might be a$$holes. Doesnt matter because they are a half mile the other way by the time I even register the thought. That's in the past, man.

As a brand new rider I've passed allot of fellow riders that have gave me "the wave". I didn't return it for a while because I wasn't comfortable taking one hand off the grips. Since then I've gotten allot more comfortable. You are right it is an exclusive club. BTW I have a HD and most of the missed waves I missed have been from people riding all different kinds of bikes. I wanted to learn to ride and have a bike for years. Now at 44 I am realizing that dream and am loving every minute of it.

my understanding of the 2 finger downward wave is howdy, keep the rubber side down, don't crash. a lot of times i will be pulling the clutch when another biker goes by, can't wave, i give a BIG head nod. and when i ride here in 90 degree temp in Florida, i have my bright yellow mesh jacket with armor. i may be considered a noob, or geek, but at 67 i don't heal as quick and road rash just doesn't interest me. i have enough scars, i don't need anymore, or stories to tell.

I have both a scooter (Honda Helix) and a Harley Dyna. It is funny to see the different reactions that I get when I wave to people from the two bikes. While most riders are cordial and wave, it seems like there is a subset of Harley riders and BMW riders that are too insecure to wave to anyone who is not riding their brand of bike. I can only guess that their identity is so wrapped up in their choice of rides that they are afraid to acknowledge anyone not in their “club”. I do recognize that sometimes people are in deep thought and just might not notice you, and that when around intersections your hands may be busy. So I don’t automatically judge everyone on an expensive bike that doesn’t wave to be a jerk.

Most of us "Harley riders" started off on other bikes. I rode sport bikes for many years, I waved then and I still wave now to all types of riders. I have ridden Harleys for many years now, some guys don't wave even to other Harleys. Like you said don' take it personal. I had a Gold Winger not wave back to me yesterday. Sometimes people are zoning out (bad idea on a motorcycle) and just simply never even see you. As long as people are out on 2 wheels enjoying life, I give them the 2 finger salute, 2 wheels down, stay safe. If my hands are occupied I will throw up a foot if I can.

When I was young, 1975, I asked my grandpa, member of the Blue Knights, why he waved at other bikers. He told me in medieval times knights whom passed each other in armor would raise their face shield each could identify the other. It was considered honorable to know your opponent. And that somehow that carried through to motorcyclist. Can’t say it was true or not but I tend to believe it.

Like you said, "motorcyclists are a brotherhood". Waving is an acknowledgement of that fact. Where I live , the majority of Harley riders do not wave to non-Harley riders. I suspect this is a common thing. My guess is that they believe the are joining an "exclusive club" when they buy one. I believe that most every non-Harley riders would stop to help a Harley rider broke down on a desolate road, and that Harley rider would be very grateful. It is my hope that just maybe, some will view your vid, read this comment, and f_ing wave. :) (Nice work by the way)

This is only my fourth season riding. I ride a sports bike and always wave to passing bikes within range. Most wave back, but I've noticed fellow sport bike riders are more consistent. I also owned a jeep wrangler and we were serious about the brotherhood. I view the bike wave as even more of a brotherhood, because we share that that same type of two wheel thrill that presents a certain element of danger. We know that everyone isn't wired for it and we also know that special therapeutic feeling that makes it worth the risk of being so vulnerable out there. When I throw it, it also means be safe out here on these streets! Maybe I'm more of a dork about it, but I'm about to watch a chain tighting video and get back out on the road ✌️😎

Cause we ride on the left here in Australia, we don't wave cause we'd have to let go of the throttle. We give a nod instead, and the majority of riders (cruiser riders excluded) will wave to anyone on 2 wheels. Like you said though, sadly the majority of cruiser riders will usually only acknowledge other cruisers, and a lot of the Harley riders will even ignore you unless you're wearing a cut. Doesn't stop me acknowledging them though, cause it's a nice surprise if they do respond.

I go to the Lone Star Rally in Galveston every November. There's several hundred thousand bikes attending. You can't wave to 'em all. It's a nice gesture to wave though, when you have the opportunity.

I have three bikes in my garage - Honda, Harley, and KTM. I wave at them all. Sometimes when I am in traffic, looking for a turn or making a turn, I might miss a bike going by until the last second when it is too late to wave. I'll wave anyway hoping maybe they catch me in the rear view mirror.
