I'm so happy you're here to review this EP with us! Really sad to hear u speak those words about the final song, it's the first song i've ever listened from them and I cried my eyes out multiple times at the finale of the track. I would recommend anyone to listen to that track but I respect you in your opinion as always!

One of my favourite bands currently in the London/UK scene Just some notes: Many of their lyrics are non snesical because they start from vocal lines and harmonies with just syllable gibberish and then they try to ft it to words later. More importantly, they do all this live to an extremely high standard. Catch them on the road!!!!!

I was gonna leave a nice comment, but you dissed I'm Happy You're Here. Consider retirement. Jk but I do strongly, strongly encourage revisiting the song. My friend group pretty much universally agrees it's the best track, it's actually the song that got us into Ugly in the first place, and I know at least a few of us, including me, outright have it as SOTY 2022 (which is really saying something because we have a lot of BCNR fans lol). It's been a collective obsession of ours like almost no other. It's hard for me to tell you what I think you're missing in it because I've never really heard the lack of cohesion you describe? I'm not even fully sure what you mean by "various sections" because I've only ever meaningfully thought of it as having two sections - before the "I've been left to grow" and after. The descending melody of the last section definitely brings the sense of collapsing to release the tension for me that you mentioned you were hoping for. Honestly it's one of the least progressive tracks on the album to me if not the least progressive lol, it feels like it has a pretty standard narrative/emotional structure and arc for this kind of song, which left me really confused when you described it as the one track that falls the most into those prog pitfalls you mentioned. I honestly don't know where to start with praising the thing, because it's the kind of song where you can listen to it a hundred times and still find new tiny details to hyperfixate on. The dissonant atmosphere around the "I'm happy you're here"s brings powerfully conflicting senses of both warmth and unease, really reinforcing that there's an inescapable underlying unease to the track and the most you can hope to get is uncertain bliss. Those moments make me feel like I'm disintegrating in the best way. The sudden hush around the eerily evocative "But that's okay with me, if that's okay with you then that's okay with me" makes you feel like you're suddenly stripped naked before all the vocalists, really tripling down on the tension that the subdued spoken word vocals were bringing, which is released beautifully in the second "I've come a long way to destroy you" refrain. I could probably gush about this song for ages without even having to mention that fucking sax. There's just way too much I love about this song. I can't say for sure without being in your head, but it's possible you were let down because of altered expectations you had from hearing the rest of the EP first as your first exposure to Ugly? For my friends and I, this song was released as a single before any of the others were, so the more subdued style was our default mental image of Ugly's sound, none of the acapella stuff had come out yet.
