Hey up everyone I hope your all doing well!
In this video, I check out these handy little USB switchers from Ugreen and test if they have any latency or transfer speed issues.
Too long didn't watch?
These switchers are awesome! There was no noticeable delay in my rudimentary tests and the transfer speed was the same as when you plug your drive into your pc directly, just make sure you have the power cable connected ( the power cable is not included with the device ). Chaining multiple switches also works!
If you have any questions don't hesitate to ask me in the comments down below.

thanks good video. I was using them in the past without the 5v power in and had issues. definitely agree to attaching power as well. I wish they had majority of the ports in the back and maybe only 1 in the front. to help with cable management.

Indeed thats something that could be improved, I think it has to do with manufacturing cost or something.

Hi, very useful video. What is the speed of switching keyboard and mouse between PCs? Can you use a hotkey instead of pressing the button on the switcher? Do keyboard and mouse reconnect everytime you switch, or do they implement some kind of virtualization so the switching is seamless and faster? Thanks in advance
@FlatLanderTech
@FlatLanderTech Жыл бұрын
it takes about a second however I have had issues with it taking more than 10 seconds because of one of my peripherals which results in windows having trouble recognizing it ( the LoupDeck CT ). you cant use hotkeys as the switcher is a stand-alone item sadly. Its hardware switched so it's basically the same as unplugging your mouse and keyboard and plugging it back in, so no virtualization as far as I can tell

I also have it for my personal and work laptops. I had issues while using the 4 USB ports simultaneously and couldn't figure out what it was. Will try again in the future if it works somehow.

It might be the power delivery. Ive noticed that if I don't use a good quality usb charger with the micro usb plug in the switchers that they don't work as good. Ive personally only been using it with my mouse keyboard and headset tho, not harddrives as for some reason the mechanical drives start ticking.

This was really helpful , Thank you so much for this review, I had another query , i saw people complaining that it was not able to power RGB keyboards and mouse properly ( Razer in particular ) there was random key strokes , the lights would not work or detection issues in windows etc , Would you be able to share your experiences ?

my apologies for my late response, I've been using my HyperX Alloy Origins Core keyboard with these switchers since before this video went live and I've never had issues. I've never tried a razer keyboard but I do have a razer viper mini mouse connected right now and it works well aswel, completely detected in the software and the RGB is working. I believe some people may not have power connected or maybe it's a problem on Razers software side.

Great video this was very helpful. Seems like usb 3.0 is so fast it negates the input lag vs usb 2. If theres no lag on gaming controllers and headsets do you think that would carry on to sim racing wheel and pedals?
@FlatLanderTech
@FlatLanderTech Жыл бұрын
I don't see any reason why it would, the tech is very simple and shouldn't have any negative impact on any device providing it doesn't need power. Are you building a duel pc sim racing setup? let me know I'm interested, thanks for leaving a comment!

in one usb 3 hub... if i connect one 1080p 60hz monitor, one wireless keyboard dongle, one wireless mouse dongle... will i feel any latency...?
@FlatLanderTech
@FlatLanderTech 4 ай бұрын
I've never heard of anyone connecting a monitor to one of these so I'm unsure about that as that, but I believe the device will still prioritize mouse and keyboard input, if a device is too heavy it will shut down completely instead of impaired performance. but that's just a hunch so take this with a grain of salt.

Hey if you only connect the output to only 1 device, ex (plugged PC, when the laptop is unplugged). Does it still work?

Sorry for my late response, Yes you can, I regularly connect a Behringer Flow 8 to it ( It's a USB 2.0 device ) and it works perfectly.

hi. I plan to buy one of these so I can share an external hdd (which stores movie files) between 2 devices which are my bluray player and my pc. Do you think it will work?
@FlatLanderTech
@FlatLanderTech 2 жыл бұрын
I personally noticed some problems while using portable drives but it should work with a powered drive like this (www.seagate.com/nl/nl/products/external-hard-drives/expansion-external-drives/) keep in mind its a switcher so you'd have to eject the drive before you switch every time otherwise some files might become corrupted.

@@FlatLanderTech what kind of problems did you notice?
@FlatLanderTech
@FlatLanderTech 2 жыл бұрын
@@vmd1293 The drives i plugged in ( 4TB Portable HDDs ) started ticking asif they where intermittently crashing or not receiving enough power, its quite concerning and I'm not quite sure what happens but its almost the same as when you drop a running drive and plug it back in, its not the gentle ticks you sometimes hear its the really noticeable "my drive is broken" kind of ticks, after that i never tried it agian.
@vmd1293
@vmd1293 2 жыл бұрын
@@FlatLanderTech does that happen even when you use a 5v power adapter? And is the switch still able to detect the drive despite the ticking?
@FlatLanderTech
@FlatLanderTech 2 жыл бұрын
Yes its while the switch is powered. It detects the drive but when the ticking started i just took it off for fear of breaking it so im unsure if it would stay connected.

Ordered it some days ago, but while waiting thought i could check some video about it. I will use it for simple things like mouse and keyboard switching between machines (I guess this is the main usage for these things, as one usually connects hard drives or ssds into front panels, where it's easy to remove or reconnect them, but unplugging Peripherals from the back of the pc is a nuisance). I'm really happy you did tested the lag, and completly agree, that even if a more sophisticated test would show some difference, it's just pure placebo, if anyone sense any lag. In the other hand it surprised me, that data transer is also keeping up with the switch. Wonder if datat transfer would affect imput lag in any way tho.
@FlatLanderTech
@FlatLanderTech Жыл бұрын
I don't think it would impact the input lag, id say it should prioritize mice and keyboard, or that the date from a mouse of keyboard is so miniature that its doesn't affect it ( some kind of Cap for those peripherals which cant be touched by anything else ) if anything I still use them today and I've never had any issues for the past years so Ugreen did a good job here.
