Well Demigods are half mortal half god. As a half nymph half god, it makes her a minor goddess. There's a difference in the Greek pantheon of gods between Major gods and Minor gods. Minor gods have more minor and specific roles compared to Major gods and goddesses.

7:34 when i hear the first few notes of this song I _always_ think of the lyrics "Polites, gear up. You and I'll go ahead. We should try to find a way no one ends up dead" (just like, in minor key or whatever) And tbh i feel like "Puppeteer" & "Luck Runs Out" are the two songs that make make Polites' absence the most _glaring_ Like, the way Polites' song was all about how he noticed Odysseus' stress/guilt And you can HEAR the heaviness in Odysseus voice + he outright says "I can hardly sleep now" but no one asks how he's doing, he's left to flounder alone Eurylochus tries to confess something thats eating _him_ but he doesnt reach out to ask how _Odysseus_ is doing The way Ody says "_We_ have to go save them" But he ends up going _alone_ Vs "Full Speed Ahead" where the person he calls on is Polites & he _cheerfully_ accompanies Odysseus He still has 43 men, he still has his _second in command_ but he's soooo alone now

Gotta admit, i had a hard time finding the danger motif on this saga but i finally got it!... today😅 About Puppeteer: 1) The melody of Full speed ahead, at the beggining of the song? Just keep in mind, it could be used for something else on the future 2) In the scene in which Odysseus is ignoring Eurylichus, if you listen REALLY closely, you can hear the melody of Luck runs out in some kind of music box

Is it just me or at the start of Puppeteer, during the discussion between Odysseus and Eurylychus, the piano melody remind of luck runs out but slower and higher ? I never notice that before, but during the reaction I notice a pattern that seem familiar from another song, and the last few notes of the piano, before the "Okay" of Eurylychus, it remind me of that melody. "You rely on wit, and people die on it. Whoa" that's what I think it was

Fun fact: Polites (who is still alive in the Odyssey at this point) is the one that leads the crew into Circe's lair. He also does a thing later... and this is also like the only place in the original poem he's brought up. But we do *know* he's Ody's best friend, and possibly his oldest. Ummm Eury sry to break it to you but: Circe *is* a god. A 'minor' one but still. Oh hey... you asked about that. Yeah she's a goddess, usually the daughter of Helios. She's also kind of become the 'original' femme fatale but that's just how people started choosing to depict her later. Oh and Talya, not Tanya. Although I bet by now you guys know that...

I realized a small add-on to the chess metaphor. "No I'm not a player, I'm a puppeteer" could be Circe saying "We are not chess players, because I have way more power and control than you could ever compete with." She believes that no one could stand against her because they aren't even on her level at all. It also gets ironic when Odysseus takes the Molly flower and gains enough power to be Circe's equal

I can't dislike Odysseus a single bit. It is not surprising at all that he insists on saving as many lives of his men as he possibly could regarding what happened before he even left for the trojan war in the first place. He might wanted to prevent the worst.. for we know, humans always try to fight what has long been established even against better knowledge. I don't really tell a significant thing but there's general knowledge from greek mythology ahead, so here is a slight spoiler warning or something, folks! Odysseus didn't want to leave his family for war because a prophet told him a few things, like how long it would take him to return, things he would lose on his way back and how all of this journey would affect himself.
@Borsecann4 ай бұрын
It really does irk me how much people pile up on Odysseus for a lot of the wrong things in my opinion. He isn't perfect and that's kind of the whole point. And purely from the perspective of the Epic musical, everything I've seen of him, to me just scream "human" or as they say "just a man". The people who don't like him are generally those who can't put themselves in the shoes of the character and take advantage of the "hindsight is 20-20" saying. Purely talking about this musical. He is a witty kid who grows up trained by Athena and becomes a King. He goes to a decade long war, wins and keeps all his men alive. If that doesn't make a person be at least somewhat cocky and arrogant then I don't know what will. And I am not even going to go into the emotions of coming down from that war-high, wanting to see your wife and child, seeing your best friend killed, etc. ; Only to have your God berate and abandon you right after and your right-hand man all of a sudden question your competency. The entire thing is about everyone throwing all responsibility on him and he should somehow be like a robot, perfect cold and calculated, whereas he is "just a man" that is trying to make the best of bad situations he isn't used to handling since he is used to outsmarting and winning. To conclude, purely from my perspective, Odysseus is a flawed man that is crushed by external factors. And while he is not blameless, most of the blame is on the fucked-up world they are in and the others around him.

One thing I love in this song is the parallels between Circe & Odysseus storywise & the parallels between Circe & Penelope musically. Circe & Odysseus are both leaders haunted by their past mistakes & their people who got hurt because of it. Circe & Penelope both have similar sounding instrumental motifs (the only classical string instrument aside from Polypehmus iirc). Both of them are incedibly intelligent & powerful women. (You'll see that in later sagas, but Penelope is incredibly clever. It's why Odysseus wanted to marry her.) Given how There Are Other Ways starts, there's also some interesting parallels there too.

Odysseus' empathy aside, Eurylochos seems to forget that they likely came to Aeaea on a penteconter, a fifty-oared ship. They've already less than 50 men left. If they're losing many more, the ship is probably going to be unusable. (Also, even though Gigi animated like 4 men here, usually there are way more of them going to Circe, I believe a dozen or more, so it's an even bigger problem then.) Something I think goes a bit unnoticed in this song is how it shows Eurylochus' development. He's still a voice of reason and has a militant mindset but he's changed some. If you think back to Full Speed Ahead, he says "600 men, 600 reasons to take what we can;" each individual person that was in their fleet was someone worth fighting for to Eurylochus. In this song, his role stays the same but shifts views, as he says to leave behind the men turned into pigs, they're no longer worth fighting for in his eyes. After losing so much Eurylochus just wants to get back home even if he has to lose a few more along the way. "Think about the men we have left before they're none, let's just cut our losses, you and I, and let's run." It's kind of hypocritical and contradictory but it's by design (think Ironwood wanting to risk it all to save Atlas even though it results in him then trying to bomb Mantle and thusly kill most of the people he's supposed to save and do some of Salem's job for her).

there are actually four "what" that are included in the what saga. the first is eurolucus in storm, the 2nd and third are both in keep your friends close with the "sometimes killing is a must, what" and "Its treasure! what." and then the fourth is in puppeteer with "but we are weak to a power like this, what was it, a woman. what?" so there are four instances in the what saga.

Anyone notice that Hermes lyre plays during Odysseus’s speech to show he’s watching

To be fair Odysseus and his crew were caught off guard when Polyphemus brought and used the club

one of my favorite parts of this song is when the harps come in while Odysseus and Eurylochus are talking and you see Hermes's shoes in the corner of the shot. 22:54 i think is the timestamp. it's such a clever way for Jorge to musically convey that Hermes was eavesdropping on the whole thing before he comes in with "Wouldnt You Like"

I'm loving the dual reactions btw but actually something that I just noticed while rewatching both of your reactions to this song (although It should have been obvious to me before but we wont talk about that) is that Circe turning men to pigs is a clear choice. She could very much turn them into any other creature or horrific beings if she really wanted to and she clearly has the power to do that but instead she made the specific choice of turning them to pigs. Now, what is a common negative phrase spoken about men in general by women especially ones who have a clear dislike of the male population? That 'Men are pigs'. Thought that was a interesting little tid bit

Wait looking back on it the comment about Polites coming back in this saga is really funny considering Polites WAS still alive at this point in the Odyssey. He was the one that led the team that got turned into pigs

I actually thibk I subscribed to gigi last week because of this puppeteer video. There was one that just hit me so good in her animation that after almost a year of watching her videos (i watch lots of animatics. And her stuff frequents my recommendation list alot. And I don't subscribe to channels easy, so you know you done good if I subscribe. And I've become more vocal on letting people know their work is awesome because artists are way too underrated. And sadly we tend to take them for granted)

I don't think anyone mentioned, but... With the men gone, Eurylochus has no other instrument for call and response, so... Circe fills the roll. So tada.

Its funny Casper thinks the sight chained(?) effect may be Circe's instrument and the intricate drums a sign of divinity considering its almost the exact inverse! What with the modern elements symbolizing her magic and the string/drum combination characterizing different sides of *her*

Another cool thing i believe i've noticed is that this type of rap flow was only used once before. In Horse and the Infant for Odysseus' planning, which leads me to believe that Rapping is essentialy military communication. Because with the right flow, rapping is just conveying information as fast and efficiently as possible.

In the strings playing under Eurylochus’s and Odysseus’s dialogue at the beginning, there is the slowed lead up to the danger motif and after they finish the highs of the danger motif play quicker right before the glissando.

I'm fascinated by the decision to use the melody from the line "then 600 men can make this whole place burn" specifically for the intro to this song

Something that I just noticed! You mentioned the piano still being there. So I started to pay more attention. When Odysseus is shutting Urilicus down, the piano played a motif to Luck Runs Out!!

Just a fun fact! Strings are circe and Scylla's instrument and also the voice actor of Talya Sindel is dating Jorge in real life.

@Mortius and @CF Reacts 21:00 For contexts, Circe has power/control in this situation. If you remember at 14:11 that the men are 'powerless to a woman' and Mortius said that 500 men were alone for a very long time. It makes me think that Circe and her nypmh's were SA and to protect her nypmh's and herself. There's a condition and if reaches the checkbox she turns them into pigs. I'm not into Greek Mythology. A lot of time the phrase 'you are a pig' normally means lack of self control. That's my intact of the phrase of 'No I'm not a player, I'm a puppeteer'. It what victims of SA do.

Talya Sindel is amazingly talented. She and Jay are a couple blessed by the Muses themselves.

If you hear Eurylochus at the beginning, he wants to confess something to get off his chest. My think is that he was about to tell Odysseus that he was the one who opened the bag. Keep an eye on him Ody, “Never really know who you can trust” “Keep your friends close and your enemies closer”…

Did anyone else hear the 'luck runs out' thread in the melody at the beginning? The melody of "you rely on wit and we'll all die it" etc
