Re7 to this day is my favorite game in the series. It is what really got me into the series, I have since played every mainline game, though I haven't finished re6 or revelations 2 because they're boring lol. Hot take: I don't dislike the boat segment, I feel that if the vhs tape part wasnt mandatory, a lot more people would like it too, skippable cutscenes would have also gone hard

I’m so amazed that theres people out there with enough skill to pull this off. Meanwhile last time I tried madhouse I died to Mia and Jack 1 so much that when I checked my deaths I was at 32… I gave up lol

Madhouse is legitamately poorly balanced. The beginning was never meant to be taken seriously as a gameplay section, the true game doesn't actually start until after the dinner scene. So the Mia fight is designed to make players scared because she is dangerous and you are constantly getting hurt. Because of this, when they jack up the damage she deals, and increase her health, while giving the player nothing more to work with than normal difficulty, well it leads to a tediously difficult fight that you will die repeatedly to unless you optimize the hell out of it (with a little luck as well). Its genuinely poorly designed for this difficulty because it was never meant to be, and is actually THE hardest part of Madhouse, so its a terrible way to introduce the mode. Then the dinner scene happens and the game starts to be good, but that first hallway and kitchen area gives you so little to work with to navigate around Jack, so its a bit annoying to do and you get so little resources for the fight. The Jack 1 fight is fine, you'll probably die just because you don't know where all the key items are, and the optimal way is also the most boring personally once you do know (I think its more fun on the other difficulties personally). But its fine once you get it and after that the house opens up and the game feels perfectly balance while still being very hard. I think Jacks new roaming AI is a bit TOO good at finding you, but otherwise its real fun. The chainsaw Jack fight is a difficulty spike, but its not bad. The game is honestly really good on Madhouse once you get to this point. Then you leave the mansion and the game starts falling apart again (though honestly that's just RE7 regardless of difficulty). Madhouse makes Marguerite's section more interesting than it was before, at least from what I remember, since its not AS linear, but otherwise feels no different in difficulty. But Luke's section is so boring as usual, and hardly feels different since you are more accustomed to how to beat the enemies efficiently on Madhouse. Its essentially just Hard mode again. The boat section is really interesting as it is changed a lot from the other difficulties, but the things that make it long and boring always persist on every difficulty, making it hard to appreciate if its any good or not (its still my second favorite area behind the mansion, with a few caveats). Beyond the puzzle layout difference though, the difficulty really stops being noticeable throughout Madhouse, and this is no different outside of resource issues in Mia's tape. Madhouse really only feels like a small step up in difficulty once you get past the ridiculous intro of the game and also when you leave the mansion, and the Mines especially really feel no different from regular Hard mode. At least the final section with the gauntlet of Molded and the 2 fat Molded is fun, it really lets you loose with all the ammo you saved up. After that the game has ended and its just slow boring cutscenes. The part with Mia shooting shockwaves is super annoying, but otherwise its identical feeling to Normal. So RE7 Madhouse starts off unfairly difficult, and then slowly drops down in difficulty until its hardly noticeable with maybe a slight tick back up for the boat section, before trailing off again. Because of this, I really wish the intro was skippable so I could just start off in the mansion at the dinner table, and then once you finally leave through the front door it skips the next 2 areas and just heads straight to the boat (but fixed so that it skips all the annoying cutscenes and walk-and-talk sections, and no Mia tape), then have the mines heavily altered to be more interesting. That would be a much more consistent Madhouse, and funner too. So much potential in RE7, but too many things holding it back sadly.

@@GBDupree I actually restarted madhouse again yesterday and to my surprise I only died once between Mia and Jack 1 which gave me a massive confidence boost… untill the Jack 2 fight. Im currently taking a breather from it but god its making me crazy, but that’s in large part because everytime I die I have to go back to get the dissection room key again which is really annoying but other than that I’m having a really good time!! Is there a hard mode in this gams? You refrence it a few times but on my screen I only had Easy Normal and Madhouse and no hard mode!! Love this game so much, really looking forward to continuing post Jack 2

@@missmarreynolds is there no hard mode? I can't remember since it's been awhile and I only played on gamepass back when it was still on there. I could have sworn there was a hard mode though (but if there was, it would be identical in structure to normal just harder, and not remixed like madhouse so there is no way to play madhouse but slightly easier). The bosses are really just puzzles in this game, which is likely why you had an easier time with them now that you know the trick. I still think Mia 1 is bad regardless (though I just hate the intro in general), but Jack 1 is super easy once you know what to do. Chainsaw Jack is also pretty easy once you know how he works (just practice crouching against him and you'll eventually get it). I like madhouse more than the base game in a lot of ways, I just wish it was balanced better as the boss fights halt progress, but the rest of the game isn't too hard. But I like the remixed items placement, makes it very different from base game. I wish I was some super programmer who could just retool it into my perfect version of it (and skip the intro as well).

When Mia tries her overhead chainsaw attack you can block it and shove her off balance without damage I was raging at that until I figured that out also fat ones I found are easiest to kill with a flame thrower especially the two in the barn
