UIM is an ironman game mode variation released in 2014. Players cannot use a bank and have just their inventory space (28 slots) to play the game. Additionally, ultimate ironmen cannot trade other players.

Yes, this is actual Old School Runescape! A Re-boot of a 2007 save file of the game, released in February of 2013. We all started fresh, and the game has been getting weekly updates with a dedicated dev team ever since.

Great content as always, I really enjoy the UIM content like this regarding quality of life items and how things are utilized in this game mode as someone that has not tried it yet. Definitely makes the idea of jumping in a lot less overwhelming.

Honestly they should make a storage item storage in the POH. Like call it the Storage Shed and have it act like an armor case/cupboard only it stores empty storage items like seed box's, coal sack's, tackle box's, ect. So that it's actually worth grinding those things out.

Glad to see that Jagex listened to your video. UIM or other iron man game modes aren’t the game mode for me, but moving the normal gameplay loop for an ultimate Ironman outside of pvp areas is a sensible decision that hopefully is good in the long run. I really like the fact that UIMs have their own polls, wish it wasn’t frowned upon for pvpers/special account builds to have the same type of treatment.

Hey zorte I was wondering if it’s worth the risk/time investment for a mid level UIM to try to early grind for a webweaver bow? I know it’s popular for mains to use this for leviathan later on but not sure if there’s any other practical use

Totally agree about the stash I'll also just keep my prims at all times. Boot switch is such a negligible boost to range/mage. I think there should always be a risk to looting bag, it's our most powerful tool it should come with some level of risk.

I remember building the spice rack to only get greeted with "UIMs can't use :)" I'm also very interested in the item/gem thing that teleports your character to safety during DCs. I'm unsure the status of that update/poll or if they'd let UIMs use it. But it would give UIM some security death-banking while the servers crap-out. Seems sensible/needed but not really unbalanced.

Yeah I was wondering the same thing for those new crystals... it will be interesting to see what happens with that. I could definitely see beneficial applications for them outside of just HCIM

If you were going to start a new uim and you had like 200 hours of afk time to put into it, what would you do?

First thing I always do on any of my UIM accounts is AFK 99 strength at crabs for the strength cape, which offers unlimited teleports to the warrior's guild where you can buy food and potions. Also sets you up with pretty solid stats for questing and entry level PVM :)

I know I am probably in the minority here but, I did not like when Jagex made the looting bag risk-free for UIM. It felt right that you had to risk something in order to double your inventory space as the original intention was only having one inventory. That being said, I want people to have fun and enjoy UIM and I can understand how a looting bag might allow for more of that even if I don't use one :)

None of these updates were significant for early or late-game UIMs, EXCEPT for the Looting bag change, which is absolutely massive. I don't know of a single person who have rolled an UIM due to their love for LMS/PvP.

Even though UIM might become better due to theese changes, I was wondering if I could get 2 cents of feedback from the community on the idea of Downgrading my UIM. So I've only got 1 RS account which is a UIM. However I have very little time to play due to real life obligations and there is still a ton of osrs content I wanna experience. Hence comes to idea of actually downgrading to a regular Ironman since I simply do now have the time to make a 2nd account. Now I've not achieved the world yet, however I do have 1 99 skill (FM) about 1520 Total and a lot of time invested as an UIM. Would it be worth it perhaps to enjoy more content to downgrade or would it be something to regret forever?

UIM will always require significantly more time to progress compared to other ironman modes due to the slower training methods and metas around supply gathering/production (especially potion making when you're at the high-level PVM stage). If you're looking to try to maximize a small amount of time to play, a normal ironman would probably be a better fit. That said, most people I know who've downgraded their iron (whether UIM to normal iron or normal iron to a main) end up regretting it. Not everyone regrets it though and you're probably best off making a choice that will align with your playstyle/available time to play :)

I personally am not a fan of the looting bag thing. Not that the addition is a bad thing (it's good), but that it further enables the loot exploit meta. It's kind of a burnout to me and one of the reasons I moved from my UIM to HCIM because I don't want to pander to a looting bag which initially was part of an exploit but turned meta as everyone abused it. The account I used to play on did no death storage, abuse of death or manipulating inventory via a looting bag, but I noticed how far behind I was compared to players who did this. It just strikes me as quite dumb when an integral part of your account style is revolved around forms of exploits. The few storage options that were legitimate was through the player owned houses, but at this point I don't think it's possible to salvage the original vision without making a new type of account style in a game that's starting to have too many account types.

Agree with your last point (I think you're saying uim isn't the same game mode as it was when the great forefathers started?) And I always look at the looting bag as a large rune pouch, it holds specific items (tradeable), and should be obtainable in a safe way. It eliminates the fear of going dry as fuck for a looting bag when your dead somewhere after a pvm accident. It's definitely made uim easier, but more convenient and consistent I would say. Btw I do NOT like the updated stash unit updates, I get they're being consistent but it's not how I want to have the game style. But that's my take and I will choose to not use them if I get the drop

i think thats fair but i think its more so what the game mode is now. like u can super play without death storage but in the end u only really use it for skilling to make it less annoying. it doesnt really provide any benefit per say just saves time. i think looting bag is good and bad like we kinda needed some kind of storage otherwise tbh the game mode just isnt playable. herblore would be virtually impossible and keeping potions is basically a no go. i do understand it burning u out tho. but in general i think the mode would be far less fun without the looting bag and honestly death storage too. what moreso gets me is costume room that shit is op asf lmao

I was there since day 1, I remember Ironwyn getting the quest cape, Lady Deja Vu, Renewed, Sir Dejavu, IordIronman, Guardy etc. IMO the old school UIM mode was fun but it was also barely playable. Stuff that people assume was in the game was basically a roadblock for UIM back when it started. No death storage for Fremm Trials, no 1 hour timer to get your shit back, when you died you kept your untradeable on you meaning you had to table them each and every them you had to go on Entrana and some minigames where just impossible. Stuff like being able to store and take out FULL OUTFITS only in house, meanining you wanna store graceful or rogue outfit well thought luck you had to get it all in one go and if say you wanted only infinity top and bottom you had to drag the hat boot and golves in your inventories all the time. Let us not even talk about clue scrolls. Imagine getting third age and having to keep it in your looting bag forever or just having to get back all your gear all the times for the clues. I remember spending what felt like years to make a impling jar because you could not store any of them. It was a true drag and I would definitely not want to go back to that stuff ever again. Having to keep D defender forever in inventory because no stashes etc, bad exemple because it is easy to get back but you get the point, imagine you having to get your entire shit back whenever you felt like doing slayer. Point is OG UIM mode had only the most passionate and insane players attempting it. I remember tabling my shit just to go and unlock the ballons in Entrana and as I said before there was no death storage and on death you kept all untradeable meaning there was zero ways to do some stuff unless you just lost it or dropped it. I remember training construction with balloons and zero QOL having to click everything. Herblore is pure cancer but back then so was RC (the meta was killing wyverns and gasp Banshees of all things to get essence, hell I remember getting the dailies at the ardougne mage for over a year!) as for farming there was no tithe or contracts. The mode became that much more popular when Settled and Verf started their UIM series, if you ever saw their old series it was truly an insane time. People were cooming all over the place when they got a DFS and now literally nobody cares about it.

The looting bag has been an integral part of UIM's for many years now and people will have no issue getting them regardless of this update, so it's just shifting the acquisition away from PvP to PvE. The UIM of old isn't coming back regardless of this update.

normally i agree completely with u but on this one im in the minority pretty hard. i think the bowfa stash should been reverted tbh and prim stash shouldnt be a thing. same with storing stuff like masori and ancestral in the poh not because itll make it easy scape to have these things but because the whole fun of uim is picking and choosing ur gear based on whats storable, what isnt and whats bis for u not just in general. id also want the prim stash more if it wasnt kinda imbalanced its the same way as the whip stash in the effect that u can just store split bark (it only takes a few hours to get the set) and u can buy a rune long from the varrok/prif shop (not 100% on the varrok one but point stands) currently its just -1 bag space which is gonna get dumb if we get storable torva or something similar. say raids 4 comes out and its now a bis melee set like masori. uim will become basically ironman but herblore is annoying and ur down like 4 invent slots forever at that point its just tedium for tedious sake. i love the game mode but i think we kinda are losing what the game mode is about in favor of making it really accessible for new uims. like lets take xtreme chunk accounts like limp and verf. imagine if they updated the chunks to be an entire continent like itd kinda defeat the purpose of the mode without making it easier or harder. just makes it all kinda pointless

Bowfa stash I agree with, but prims one seems pretty insignificant. But Masori/Ancestral etc in the house makes little sense to me. Yes, it's impossible to utilize these storages unless you have all the items, but that doesn't matter.
