Can the centring Guide be mounted to underneath the base plate so if I were to drill baluster holes in a handrail I could use it to drill centre and on the angle at the same time? Hope that makes sense.

Sorry for the late response, I finally managed to check it and it appears as if you can, the mounting holes go straight through the base and are accessible from the bottom of the unit so on first glance, yes, it does appear to be fixable from the bottom. As far as the bannisters, I’d imagine so but it’s a fairly heavy unit so YMMV 🤷🏻♂️ but thank you for that awesome question, it may of just opened up a whole lot of new options for me 🤔

I have the woodpeckers drill guide and it is awesome, probably more money than that one but its great quality.
@woodcraft_cz Жыл бұрын
Yeah the woodpeckers, to me at least, looks like the best drill guide currently available on the market but that’s reflected in the price. This is a very good second best I would say 🙏

This device is indefinitely not available in Germany as of now. Neither Dictum nor their suppliers were able to make any prediction about when they could deliver. So I bought a high end FAMAG device which is 80% more expensive but higher performance always has a premium on price.

@@alexandervocelka9125 yeah I think brexit really messed up the ease of accessing products. I’m pretty sure it’s available at Axminster tools but not sure how shipping works? But none the less I’m pretty sure you’ll be very happy with Famag, I hear nothing but good things

Looks like a really nice piece of kit, but I can buy a pillar drill for the same price

Yeah definitely a premium priced tool, I have a drill press but wanted something more portable

I dont have this specific model, but i found this kind of guide difficult to operate accurately. Holding it down with one hand, and having to lift the other arm quite high to push the drill down with sufficient power while keeping the motion vertical is challenging ergonomicly.
@woodcraft_cz Жыл бұрын
I always find that if extra pressure is needed on the drill, a clamp on the base works a treat 👌

@@woodcraft_cz I will give it a try. Thank you. Any tips for drilling in the middle of a board?
@woodcraft_cz Жыл бұрын
@@b3arwithm3 out of luck on that one I’m afraid 😁 I would consider a strong double sided tape if just the one hole but if repeat holes then that’s not a great solution

Looks like a Rockler drill guide with a color swap. Is ujk just a reseller?
@woodcraft_cz Жыл бұрын
Yeah I noticed they pretty much are identical. I don't think they are resellers though, they are a UK fabricator but it could be possible? id have to look into where it was made tbh.
@wayward-saint Жыл бұрын
@@woodcraft_cz Could also be that Rockler is the reseller. Or that they both use the same factory in China - though if that were the case I would expect to see more knock-offs.

Why didn’t you go for the woodpeckers?
@woodcraft_cz8 ай бұрын
Mainly price I think, worked out almost if not more then double the price of this. Would love to have had the opportunity but decided against it simply due to budget

These drill guides are no good if you want perfectly straight drill bit holes the reason for thise is because some times we'll most of the time when you are pressing down on the drill one side depending on you arm location will push slightly down on one side than the other and then your drill bit drifts it's OK for straight down but if you are after accruacy your better using a 45 or 90 block to clamp down and drill into with the support of both hands on the drill
@woodcraft_cz Жыл бұрын
I hear that and agree to some extent but on the same note, I try and let the drill and bit along with gravity do the work and try my best to not forcefully push the drill, it’s mainly an issue when gravity isn’t on your side (awkward angles >45° etc). I guess it also depends on your required tolerances and application (marrying parts could be an issue but haven’t tried)
