I think the idea that this is somehow a milder version of the virus,

I am in the Western Cape province in SA where we have just entered our fourth wave, behind other provinces like Gauteng, which seems to have just peaked.
Even though our area hasn’t been hit badly by Omicron infections yet, cases are rising quite quickly. Compared to Delta, where you could feel people were very anxious about contracting that variant and almost everyone knew someone in hospital and most knew someone who had died, the mood is definitely different.
We are just not hearing about mass hospitalisations like in the third wave and those that are testing positive are mainly feeling flu like symptoms for a few days and then recovering. We are really hopeful that Omicron is definitely much milder.

37,000 new cases in South Africa yesterday and only 11 deaths… deaths are seemingly dropping, or at worst staying where they are. Many friends and family testing positive with no serious symptoms - Feeling optimistic that it will stay this way!

I live in Cape Town, South Africa, my daughter is 26 years old, fully vaccinated, she has Omicron,. Her symptoms are mild, headaches, stuffy nose, exhaustion and body aches. Her partner is unvaccinated, he is 29 years old, he has been struggling with a sore throat, high temps, body aches and headaches. Her recovery has swift, her partner is still struggling, seven days later. I personally know fifteen people with Omicron , across a broad age range and all of them are recovering at home. I hope this gives the reader some peace of mind. Thank you Doctor John.

Omicron 'cases' in hospital include those who'd tested positive with CV within the last 28 days, regardless of their reason for hospital admission. Also, those admitted for any reason who happen to test positive while in hospital.

It's certainly difficult to agree with the politicians putting everything non-urgent at the NHS on hold for the vaccination programme. I work in cancer care and we have seen the knock on effect of this throughout the pandemic. If this variant really is mild, I simply cannot condone that course of action. We've seen so many late stage cancers because people aren't able to see their GP or pick up incidental cancers early at routine appointments because of pooling of resources into vaccinations. Really hope Omicron stays mild and burns itself out, ending this bloody pandemic once and for all!

My adult daughter attended a Christmas party in central London with 17 of her work colleges on Thursday. They all did a lateral flow test before the party and all were negative. By today all of them have symptoms and positive PCR tests. My daughter has mild symptoms; aches and pains, headache, tiredness, and sore throat but no cough or running nose.
