The UK and France have both called snap General Elections - a look at the energy around both.

Hi Amanda You are asking why the rush? My understanding is that parliament is prologued and not sitting because of this. Now, if something comes up that demands an emergency response, then it wouldn't be debated in parliament, but would just be passed directly into law.

Thank you for this video, Amanda. Let's face it, most Western countries are in a mess politically. People feel the same way. Politicians are so out of touch. I voted for Macron the first time he was elected. He's been such a disappointment. I would like to clarify something. The political system in France is different from the one in the UK. France will have a parliamentary election at the end of the month. A general election is to elect a president. The fact that you had no clear answer about the French election's outcome makes sense. A defeat in the coming legislative election will not oust Macron from office. If his party loses, a new prime minister will be appointed from the opposition - including, possibly, from Marine Le Pen's party. It will be basically a coalition. Macron ruled out resigning whatever the results of the election. If there was a coalition, Macron would be a lame duck with no power. His party won't have a majority in the main parliament to pass legislation. Macron hopes voters will see sense and won't vote for Marine Le Pen's party. As for Marine Le Pen, she will have to wait for the next presidential election in 2027 to have the opportunity to get the top job.

I heard a rumour that they struggled to find a Tory candidate in East Thanet to replace the excellent Tory MP Craig Mackinlay who has retired due to his ongoing sepsis battle. Retaining his seat would have been almost a given. Instead we have a candidate who is married to the disgraced former MP Peter Bone and she lives nowhere near Thanet. Almost all but the Green and 2 independents have been drafted in. It is a similar situation in many other constituencies. Politics as a whole is scraping the barrel. May the Good Lord help us all! 🙏💜🙏

Amanda, you are the same age as me and my parents, dad 82 and mum 3 years younger! They, like your parents have always been conservative although they both came from working class backgrounds. They really loved Thatcher back in the day. I have obviously been influenced by them but I’m far less enamoured by any political party at the moment. I feel there is hidden influences running the show, it will matter not who’s in power. I may spoil my vote.

Hello from France. The European elections saw the National Rally come out on top led by Jordan Bardella (Marine LE PEN's Party). A first since 1997. Faced with the failure of his camp in the European elections, Emmanuel Macron took, under duress, a radical decision: the dissolution of the National Assembly. “The challenges demand clarity in our debates […]. I have decided to give you back the choice of our parliamentary future through voting. I am therefore dissolving the Assembly this evening,” he announced on television during a short speech of less than 5 minutes, delivered an hour after the publication of the first results. He spoke of a “serious and heavy” decision and an “essential time for clarification”. “France needs a clear majority to act in serenity and harmony,” he added. Therefore, the legislative elections have been brought forward and will be held on June 30 and July 7, the minimum deadline set by the Constitution.

Interesting, thank you Amanda. Couple of observations/personal views: Rishi: has totally given up - you can see it in his eyes, he's going through the motions. He was trader, then Chancellor- all quite solitary in a way. He was never going to be a team player. Richer than the King - he's not overly invested in the outcome. Keir S is a Virgo with lots of Libra in his chart - none of us can be what we are not. Virgos have excellent minds and Librans take a balanced view. He's not especially charismatic but he's not presenting a facade either. He is what he is. Maybe a calm, balanced leader with a good mind, a team player willing to listen to diverse views will be good for the UK. Personally I think our society has become too lured by artiface & the performance of leadership (eg Boris) and thinks that's what leadership is, rather than considering a leader's character & substance, and capacity for intelligent, considerate thought. Re Nigel F and Marine le P. They're dangerous. History doesn't repeat but it echoes. It's an obvious thing to say but leaders on the far right and far left have always wrecked havoc. It may be a shocking gamble/ knee jerk reaction but it's understandable that Macron has taken on the far right (formerly National Front) in France. Hutzpah!! Anyway, interesting reading! Thank you.

King Rollo of Normandy was a Viking. I'm not surprised the energy of the vikings is coming forth, I've felt that for some time in the energy's of people taking on the vikings history and wanting to be a part of sowething substantial.. its not about people wanting to be viking as such just it feels good to be in that energy, more earthy, more grounded, more comrardery. You've talked in the past, Amanda, about people being reincarnations of historical figures and I feel quite strongly that Nigel Farage is the reincarnation of one of the radical figures from the English Civil War - either Gerrard Winstanley, the leader of the group known as "The Diggers" or John Lilburne, the leader of the group known as "The Levellers".
