This was my reaction when getting on the overground. I didn’t know all part of the lines were not electrified back then, if I was blind I would’ve assumed I got on a bus 😂

These are cracking things when they get to speed. Was up that way last weekend and had one on the Furness line. Bit along the WCML between Lancaster and Carnforth really did show how good these are at near top speed, just a shame they don’t really see it with the work they do!

Believe me, the 170s and 158s are far more comfortable than 195s. The seats, noise level and ride quality are all very poor in the 195s. There's a reason it's joked within the rail industry that CAF stands for 'cheap as f***'.

Wigan to Preston, 10 to 15mins, however Wigan to Manchester via bolton or Atherton line 40 mins. However work has started on extending my local station ince in makerfieild, and electrification! However my house backs onto Springs Branch and noisy traffic in the night and horns can be a bit much.

It’s diesel-mechanical. The engine drives the gearbox which drives the transmission / wheels. Just like a bog-standard diesel bus

@@willparton the ride quality of near life expired class 150, 155 and 156s is far smoother, on a 195, you can feel every bump and the clunk and jointing noises the carriage makes is very obxonious In terms of seating the 195 is among the worst I’ve experienced, they’re not even comfortable for short journeys The class 196s are far more refined in terms of ride quality, but I’d still say it was lacking. The seating is acceptable for the journeys they will do, but not much longer
