I confidently went past several struggling cars in Little Eaton today. My car has Goodyear Vector 4 seasons Gen 2 tyres. Superb in snow.

@@GeordieAffy there's a limit to summer tyres abilities though even with good driving. I went up a snow covered steep side street in Matlock on Saturday that a car on summer tyres would not have made it up.

@@kubitislv definitely have a limit as per my comment above. Living in the Dales where snow isn't a freakish one off like Derby, summer tyres aren't up to the job.

Everyone talks about winter tyres, fair enough if you can afford them and somewhere to store them also, plus the hassle of getting them changed but when do you change ? No point if snow falls for two days and then it clears. In the UK get winter tyres if you live in an area that gets regular winter snow, otherwise pointless, or if retired and all the time in the world you can muck about swapping them, every five minutes.

@@oddities-whatnot not true, winter tyres are incredibly effective at any temperature below about 13 to 15 degrees, so stick them on in November and swap them back in April. Faster breaking times on cold and damp surfaces, as well as snow and ice, and much better grip than standard summer tyres in anything below 13 degrees. Other option is to go cross-climates (not all season, that's a different thing). Cross climates can be used all year and have the added bonus of standard tread pattern, but grip will when the temps drop due to dual compounds, only downside is that cost a bit more than either a standard summer or a standard winter tyre. But definitely worth the investment.

Why oh why do owners of two wheel drive cars on summer tyres believe they will complete their journey with no issues? A 4x4 on summer tyres, the owner is delusional. I am perplexed why drivers even attempt a journey in snow on summer tyres as they only clog the roads and stuff it up for everyone. There should be educational adverts on TV warning or advising drivers of the risks of driving in snow or certainly heavy snow fall.

I drove up a snow covered hill with Michelin crossclimate tyres overtaking knobs in 20 inch slicks in their VW golf gti's, loads of cars blocked the road so I pulled over and got loads of abuse from the knobs in rwd/summer tyres.

winter tires are mandatory in British Columbia & Ontario studs are allowed in northern Ontario. some other provinces allow studs & chains.

Also regardless what some say all weather or winter tyres are streets ahead of summer tyres in weather below 7°c. All seasons have come a long way, very close to winters tyres. If you check out Tyre Reviews a youtube channel who does extensive tyre testing. When on the Michellin Crossclimate 2 tyres he was that impressed he had to double check to make sure someone hadn't accidentally put on winter tyres as they performed just like them in the snow tests.

What I don't understand is how watching this video people can identify summer tyres from winter tyres. The biggest cause of any skid is the driver and their right foot! Yes, winter tyres improve grip but they don't eliminate bad drivers!

The guy driving the car in the video knows how to drive, keeps really safe distance behind and stops as soon as someone else does. I plan on getting an SUV with AWD next and fit all seasons tyres, U.K. roads seem to be greasy half the year these days. Plus I live in Dorset where it floods lots and there is always farmers muck on the roads.

1 word, Quattro also - 2nd set of tires for winter, swapped as soon as temperatures get to 0°C, and you are good to go, swap back to summer tires in march, as there wont be any more snow and this way you can have each set of tires for 3 seasons easily.

Haha who's this joker whoever they are that isn't bad snow they haven't seen really bad snow yet, i've seen far worse snow than that in the UK in my 75 years and everything carried on as normal, the only think that makes any weather condition's bad are bad driver's a lot of driver's now a day don't know how to drive in snow.

Totally agree, they drive as if it was dry, plenty of revs, lowest gear, result wheelspin. I was always taught to start off in highest gear possible and then control speed as much as possible by using gears and using brakes as little as possible.
