@@ukgemhunters Hi buddy! do you think you could make a video about prospecting gems in the UK for beginners please! 🙏🏻 would love to know what sort of terrain(s), things to look out for, equipment such as rock hammers/picks, sieves for river bed hunting etc etc...how to use them and so on so forth lol, i've been an avid crystal/gem collector since a child (now 33) which has recently been resurrected thanks to my niece but i always thought we didn't have much in the UK until i found your channel and now i'm absolutely hooked on getting on my bike and searching! i live in Cardiff and regularly ride the 'Taff trail' which takes you up through Castle Coch, Pontypridd, Merthyr and onto the Brecon beacons so i imagine they'll be some great places to look from what i've seen up there before, (lots of places like in your videos) i'm so glad i found your channel and thank you for any advice you could give a newbie! 😬 EDIT: also do you know where one could look out for a group of like minded souls in my area as it would be great to have some company too!

@@AndreaDingbattThank you! :) it must be lovely up in the Lake district, shame your not still down in Cardiff we could have tried to get a group together ourselves! :) i've never heard of Bryn Dinas but i will have a look into it thanks! im hoping the area around Tongwynlais/Catell Coch might be a good shout, there's a place called three bears cave there that looks very similar to the sort of forest/mountain terrain i see in these videos!

I live right next to the last working coal pit that was closed in England. Thoresby Pit, a stone's throw next to the iconic Sherwood Forest. Would this area possibly be worth looking around for minerals? Thanks in advance.

Just a quick question, can quarts be found anywhere as I live in Warrington and their is a few forests like that ?
@ukgemhunters2 жыл бұрын
Yes but most of the time it's just quartz pebbles or just milky horrible stuff. Do lots of research on the geology around you and what mines there was, obviously close to Warrington was the lead mines, so galena, Quartz and fluorite

Herkimer should only really be used referring to the crystal clear double terminated qtz points from Herkimer in the USA. If it's a Herkimer diamond it's a qtz point from Herkimer. Unless u say it's like a Herkemer diamond. Also it's amazing what can be found in UK and BIG bits can be found iv found 6kg amethyst geodes. Unfortunately it did not have a cavity. Also a 14 kg agate geode. Should do a video!
@ukgemhunters2 жыл бұрын
Yes definitely, it would be great to see them. I only used that terminology for the American viewers, not to try and confuse people, I know herkimers are an American thing the same as our blue john, it's still fluorite, just a bit more special 🤣

Hey it like your favorite mushroom spot, you tell someone then they tell someone etc etc, then you goto your favorite spot and now it's a waste of time cost it's over picked. Sometimes it takes days and days of searching to find a good spot. I have a saying 1 in 10 hunting trips to find a spot then 1 in 10 of those spots could be brilliant. Do your research for possibilities they can be endless then go for a gander. Scree slopes on old volcanoes, disused quarries etc
@hanamccarthy7102 жыл бұрын
Thats not really fair, he has done hours of research and going through old books to find his spots. That info is out there for anyone willing to put the effort in.

The research of your local area, both of geology and human activity, and getting out there and finding them is all part of it.
