As a drummer I think one you’d really enjoy is Consign to Oblivion-the most popular version is the Zenith one! Also highly recommend Cry for the Moon which was their first single, so you can see where they started. There’s a great recent version from their Omega Alive online concert! Both of these songs feature guitarist Mark Jansen’s harsh vocals as well, which is something you haven’t heard yet! Epica uses “beauty and the beast” vocals on a lot of their songs and the effect is just awesome, especially because they really utilize it as an aspect of storytelling-a great example is Abyss of Time.

Since you’re a drummer, I would absolutely recommend the song ‘Consign to Oblivion’ recorded in the Zenith, Paris (by Epica of course). You won’t be disappointed. 😊❤

I was at this show and I loved every second. Unleashed is one of my favorites, the Essence of Silence (official live video) is also a song I really like. Its heavy with a brutal breakdown but also melodic.

Loved your gut reaction, be aware that there will be three concerts this year with full orchestra and choir. An absolute must attend. I can tell from experience. You will also find some "Retrospect" video's giving you an idea.

Epica Never disappoints… are getting more powerful every day. and yes, they have the best drummer of any symphonic metal band, damn. Try victims of contingency from omega alive next next 🔥 this version is really complex, heavy and melodic in the same time

I was at this show, pretty much at the front row. It was amazing. I have seen quite a few Epica shows in my life, but this was a really good one. Simone and the guys were really on point. Add in Apocalyptica (who also played an entire show before them) and you get an amazing night to remember.

Great to see you back with Epica. As I said last time, I was there , front row and they are always great live. I’ve seen you already got some great reactions let me give you a few more. Consign to Oblivion live at the Zenith in Paris is an absolute must!!!! The lyric video, Universal Death Squat. Kingdom of Heaven part 1 and part lll from their Omega Alive streaming concert during the lockdown. There is a part ll but there is no live video of it. Please do part l first before doing lll, it sounds logical but still, you’ll understand later.

If you want to dive down the rabbit hole properly. I would recommend starting with their 10th anniversary show, Retrospect. Which was a 3 hour show with full orchestra and choir. It was the perfect showcase for the best music from their first 10 years. Normally I recommend Unleashed from that show but as you have just done the AFAS version you might like to start with Chasing the Dragon which is a power ballad. Asking for a favourite Epica song is like asking if I prefer cats or dogs, I love them all ... I would suggest reacting to "Chasing the Dragon" from their "Retrospect" show though, or "Kingdom of Heaven pt. 3" from "Omega Alive", yes you can easily start with the third one in the series. Be prepared for some harsh vocals, though I think you will find they work really well with the music

Yep, this one is great! Two tips: first tip: there is also another great live version of this song with full symphony orchestra and choir on stage + spectacular pyro: Epica "Unleashed live at the Retrospect (2013)". and second tip: Epica drummer Ariel ("the Beast") van Weesenbeek doing a drums playthrough of the song Universal Death Squad. And by the way: what makes mr van Weesenbeek extra special is that he doesn't use his double kicks just for blast beats, but that he really integrates them in the "groove"...

There is a direct connection between Epica and Floor Jansen and that is through guitar player and founder of Epica, Mark Jansen (Mark and Floor aren’t related). Mark was is Floor’s first band After Forever together with Floor. He left After Forever because he wanted to move into a heavier direction and founded a band called Sahara Dust which after the first demo was renamed into Epica. Over the years Floor has guested with Epica and is also good friends with Simone Simons.

Consign to Oblivion live at Zenith (official live). Epica drummer Arien really shows off his skill and is dramatically good and fast! Please MAKE SURE to react the Live at Zenith (Paris) version from 2017!!! That performance is a fan favourite for many Epica fans. And is by far superior to any other live performance of this song. In my opinion anyway :) Don't let anyone tell you otherwise :)
