Andy and Dandan Fisher - Steam Around the World (TAGs Modelshop)

Күн бұрын

An opportunity too good to miss presented itself and the chance was seized. A good friend had pointed out a working from the Mid-Norfolk Railway (a heritage line) to Booth's of Rotherham, a well known railway dismantler which had become notorious in the 1960's for scrapping dozens of steam locomotives.
The Mid-Norfolk Railway has been earning a valuable few extra pounds by storing unwanted railway stock for the major train operating companies and amongst these were the Greater Anglia Mk.III coaches involved in the action today.
Access to Booth's Yard requires reversal across a road level crossing, a movement requiring a walker to ensure the road was clear and safe.
Holmes Junction in Rotherham offers three options - the main line, Booth's Yard and the link to Rotherham Central station. These few minutes at Holmes, happily, provided all three options in use a first for me.
Recorded on 26th May 2020.

@@AndyDandanFisherSteam the problem with those coaches is the outer skins were aluminium and the frame of the coach was steel. Worked for BR when they were new! Years later worked at Norwich for a time when Nat Express took over and all the Mk 2s and 86s went, and they inherited the Mk 3s from Virgin who had had their moneysworth out of them on the West Coast for years. Can remember many being refurbished at Derby and large sections being replaced in the box section framing at floor level - just the same as the 315s/7s done at Ilford. 321s more recently built in the same fashion have also started disappearing en mass. Sad really as I helped commissioned a lot of those when they were new! The old order changeth. Even sadder is the fact we don't build their replacements and places like York, Derby and Doncaster are now housing estates. Wonder where the people all work? But thats another story........
