As a bloke from Porthcawl who spent a lot of summers in Pembrokeshire and spent 5 years living in Truro, I can see the comparisons but they’re pretty different once you’re exposed to them a while. The difference is that Pembs is at least cheaper and marginally closer to civilisation. Generally I’d say I think I prefer the look of Cornwall and the towns/villages are nicer but I think I prefer the people and more down-to-earth vibe of Pembrokeshire. It’s also cheaper obviously…

We live in St Ives and holiday in the Tenby area. It's the way Cornwall used to be before it got too crowded and expensive. When we first came here, there were 5 major attractions for the kids locally, now just one and that is expensive. The season now never seems to end and the crowds are always here. We seldom go do the town as parking is almost impossible and it's just too far to walk now, age is catching up with me.

I remember going on holiday to Cornwall as a kid in the 1970s - I know some people (especially people who live there) really like it, but I really wasn't keen at all! The coastal bits were nice but appallingly crowded and congested even then, whilst the inland bits seemed bleak and miserable, with lots of scars from clay and tin extraction - and it took forever to get there in those days! I've never been back. I've had some day trips to Tenby and the surrounding area and its very nice, if not that interesting. I keep meaning go to the Pembrokeshire Coast / St Davids area, but its a long long way for me now.

I’m a field based engineer located in Bridgend (loved your bit on Bridgend in your mid Glamorgan video btw). I regularly take trips to Pembrokeshire and Cornwall and can tell you that yes Cornwalls roads are improving everyday, but at an incredibly slow pace. Once you get off of the duals of the A30 the road network is an absolute nightmare, rush hour or not. On top of that the roadworks are not due to be finished until march next year (it’ll likely get pushed further just like the heads of the valleys has since brexit). Pembrokeshire is the same, they’re currently redoing the A40 into Haverfordwest and beyond which is also an absolute shitshow to drive through. Kinda glad I bought my house at the time I did (245k last summer, M4 corridor eh?).

What an interesting comparison. The problem, I suspect, is that many more people across Southern England think of themselves more highly than they ought, when compared to Wales, with its national identities and mostly shared values and to the Southern English, anything that's in Southern England - even if the locals do speak a bit funny - is much more preferable, than anything else. Hence, for as English as it and its people might seem, Pembrokeshire's main problem is simply that it's in Wales - and you have to pass places like Newport, Port Talbot, and Swansea to get there - even if you stay on the M4! The lower population also means that rail links are not as good, especially in terms of direct services to and from London and othjer English cities. Personally, I'd go there every time, but then I'm not rich or pretentious either!

Cornwall enjoyed a period of enhanced popularity over here in The States among fans of the show "Poldark" (Bodice-ripper romance starring the goddess Eleanor Tomlinson, so no surprise there). Interestingly enough, it was Eleanor Tomlinson herself that took a holiday at a place in Pembrokeshire (sort of a really upscale camping resort with posh tents and self-procured mussels for cooking ones own gourmet dinners). She reported to her followers on Instagram what a lovely place it was. Can't recall the name of the place now, but it looked really nice. Of course any place where she takes selfies looks wonderful. She could stand in front of an overflowing tip and it would look desirable.

The difference is easily explained. One (Cornwall) is in England, has only the council and the UK government mucking it up - and the other (Pembrokeshire) is in Wales. Here they have both the UK government , and councils - but have an added layer of expensive and unnecessary bureaucracy mucking them up too .....The Welsh assembly. I lived in Cornwall (Newquay) years ago, and now live in Wales, so am familiar with both areas. As you say, Cornwall is busy in the summer, and it's roads are getting better every year. On the other hand, Pembroke is quiet,, and the Welsh assembly ( who are responsible for transport in Wales) have said that there will be NO new roads built in Wales. Go figure what that combined with this stupid 20 mph speed limit in most built up areas, and their impending tourist tax is doing for tourism. We live in Wales, and usually go back to England for holidays... Keep up the good work

Devon and Dorset have much nicer places and are a little cheaper and quieter (and easier to get to unless you live in Cornwall). Pembrokeshire is one of my favourites. There are some bad towns but you just go there for groceries and get out. For Tenby try Penally. Only a mile away and can be cheaper, quieter and with a nicer beach.

do wales and england have diferent crime rate rules. there is no way anywhere in wales has that high a crime rate. in an earlier vid you said aberystwyths crime rate was high... no chance. it aint the safest but it ain't anywhere near as high as english citys.

Cornwall does not have a slightly warmer climate that is absolute BS. The winter is slightly less cold that is all but the winters are very wet

Wait till next year when the new speeding fines hit the crime stats. I reckon at least 400 in a thousand. The advantage Cornwall has is those rainy days you have more options. You always get them in the UK. I expect there are some who still don't realise the bridge tolls have been removed.

Problem is both those places just smell, and one is in Wales.

Your area figures need fixing - 1375 sq mi is definitely *not* 151 sq km!

The price of beer has something to do with it, and whether its festival time or not.

Pembrokeshire, don't agree! City people will just not get it! Single file roads, no 4g my ass! That's what's flapping good about it, its a chance on this highly overcrowded island to have time to think. You said you went everywhere in the county did you walk the Golden Road or climb Carningli, the mount of Angels? I noticed it in your footage. Or did you wild swim in the many pools and watched seals sunbathing or walk the rugged cliff paths. You are judging from a urbancentric angle, which is fine perhaps the good gwerin of Pembrokeshire don't want multitudes of boy racers and costa Mc Donalds culture blighting the ambience. The crime rate is more to do with the police being bored and over diligent than it is elsewhere, because otherwise they couldn't justify their employment. Besides that, yes I enjoyed your synopsis!
