I've been learning for a year now and I am a very nervous driver. I am the kind of person to have to know exactly what i'm doing and hate when I can't control the situation, that's why driving scares me if anything unexpected happens. I'm a good driver but nerves get in the way. I hate the unexpected so this really helped me gain some understanding of what my test will be like. Obviously my route etc will be different from this one but I feel that watching this has helped me format my brain into understanding how its going to work and has alleviated my stress levels a little. Passed my test yesterday. These videos were very helpful. I would recommend using a nerve calming potion like Rescue Remedy before you enter the test center. Calmed me right down so I could concentrate better. Had 3 minors.

In my 50 minute night drive I've had to go through 12-13 smaller ones (just outside of Vienna, Austria). My biggest problem: I wanted to shift up to third, not long enough straights, so I was stuck in second with the car screaming at me to shift up already xD I've come to somewhat hate them now xD

Interesting.... His drive was a breeze. The roads were almost empty and the roundabouts were small, easily manageable. Where I live, they are multi-lane and the traffic is heavy.

We have filmed about 10 routes at that test centre. They are all similar difficulty - it’s just the traffic and hazards that are random and can challenge the driver.

Nice. The sat nav helps a lot in the independent driving part. It makes it a little bit less hard. When the examiner gives you directions and then let you drive as if you are on your own, it is a lot to remember and sometimes you can get lost.

The trouble is that only 4 out of 5 tests use the Sat-Nav, so the other 1 in 5 tests have to follow road signs for 20 minutes instead....

3:49 driving over a mini roundabout 4:01 indicating left a junction too early And generally often driving 3-5mph below the speed limit. Are you guys sure we can do this on the test?

It’s ok to put your right wheels across a mini roundabout if needed, as it won’t cause any danger. I indicated just after passing the last right turn before the junction, so wasn’t too early. Remember we should be using the MSM Routine, so should normally Signal before braking as that is part of the Manoeuvre. We should judge our speed according to the current conditions, and not regard the limit as a target. In addition the driver is only using the car’s speedometer, which will always read a little higher than the true speed that the cameras GPS uses for the onscreen graphics.

When there are things like car parks or business entrances before junctions it can be tricky to decide when to indicate sometimes. We have to consider how much notice we should give to following traffic, and how much risk there is from vehicles coming out of the car park etc. If there is no 'side traffic' or pedestrians I would probably ignore the car park and signal just before braking as normal, but if there is someone emerging from the side turning I would delay the signal until it wouldn't cause any confusion. So there isn't a black and white answer that will always be correct, rather we should consider each situation separately and signal when we think it gives the clearest warning to other traffic without causing any confusion.

When stopped: handbrake on, gear lever in neutral (sometimes other way). Make mirror checks more obvious. Was there a hill start? No town centre driving, hardly any traffic. Easy peasy.

I passed today with 8 minors. All thanks to your videos! The examiner gave me 5 minors for driving in lower gears. I mostly drove in the 2nd gear as we were on hills most of the time and I think they were a bit unjustified. But, i dont care now because i've passed atleast. :D

That head-up speedometer read a little higher than the cars original speedo, which would have been showing under 70 at the time. The true speed of the car measured by GPS would have been about 5mph less - although an examiner would presume the car's speedometer to be accurate for the purpose of the test. Either way, we wouldn’t expect a fault for going 1mph over the limit.

How are you sometimes going so low in second gear without the car getting jumpy or even stalling?

In any modern car, if you are driving in 1st, 2nd or 3rd gear and lift off all the pedals the car will roll along with the engine idling. You can’t see the signs on the video, but that road is a No Entry so the signal shouldn’t cause any confusion.

Good Evening. I have been watching your KZbin videos when you use your manual vehicle and I wanted to see if you can give me tips on turning left and right .Whenever I approach roundabouts I always tend to find myself doing well with lifting the clutch up with gear selected beforehand while not approaching too slow but when it comes to turns I either brake too late with lifting clutch up before turn or too early with lifting clutch a while back from turn.I used to coast quite a lot but I wanted to change that so I watched KZbin videos on downshifting but I just can’t grasp it fully with approach speed and gear selection on turns.Any help would be greatly appreciated. Just do whatever you think is safest. If it looks too tight to get through safely, then stop - or continue slowly if there is enough room.

27:43 Shouldn't the driver have signalled left to show he was leaving the roundabout at the second exit? My instructor always says to signal out of the roundabout even when going straight over. Also is it a fault/minor if I indicate when not necessary?

We would normally indicate to show that we are leaving a roundabout, but if the roundabout is very small and we can see that our signal won’t actually benefit anyone else then we sometimes don’t indicate. Indicating when unnecessary would be a fault if it was wrong or confused someone else, so we must consider each situation individually.
