Man thanks so much for this reaction, nobody really gives this guy a chance. You hit the nail on the head when you said it's just not the same talking about music to people can't feel it or get into it. He is one of the most talented musicians out there right now and I hope you can help show more people his talents. I can't personally relate to what he goes through on a daily basis, but they way he tells his story is pure poetry and makes you feel every ounce of pain he is going through. If you read into Hayden's backstory it makes his music that much more powerful. Can't wait for more hill country devil. Cheers man great job and keep up the great work!!!!!!

@@OliWilford personally its may favorite song he does. I have followed a few different channels over the years and your seems to fit right into the pocket. Even the other followers are amazing and great to talk too through your channel. Again man keep it up, great to see your success, it's a testament to how seriously you take this gig and the ability to break songs down accurately. To have the ability to feel music is a amazing trait and not everyone can do it. Keep it up.

@@brentmight6700 Cheers brother. I think the whole community is pretty chill to engage with really. I will occasionally push myself into listening to different things. If I genuinely don't like something, I just don't talk after listening to it and I don't upload it. That's why whenever I upload something I am quite appreciative of the music. Having said that, I definitely resonate a lot more with the deeper stuff, partly because I feel the words and it makes it easier for me to find words to talk about it.

Personal opinion is Rats is a damn good song, but the beginning of Kerr County Dopesick Blues will set you up for Rats get Fat

One of my all time favorite artists. His whole album and every loose song he’s done with gems are incredible. I learned to play this song and New Kind Of Lonely when I was early in recovering from my own heroin addiction and they really got me through. I feel his music to my core.

On a video of a really sad song that he did for Gems and probably my favorite, "New Kind of Lonely", some one asked in the comment section what the story was on this guy. Anthony Simpkins, creator of GemsOnVHS, simply responded "bad stuff, mate. real bad." In a live KZbin performance during this cruddy quarantine, Anthony interviewed him (Hayden Karchmer) and he, without going too far into details, explained some of his past woes (even giving a rehab recommendation at one point) and that sometimes when you experience hard times and sorrow, music is simply a great way to release and that its helpful. So many of us, unfortunately, can relate to this man's lyrics and I think they help a lot of people get through their own hard times. Hayden really is a blessing. He has some deep music for us and he is very loved.

You can feel that pain, too. I couldn't imagine the feeling of seeing a real song you've written to express your feelings. But I fully know the feeling of listening to music to release you from your demons. A real blessing for sure. I feel like I'm going to feel the same way about him as I do about Benjamin Tod, the more I listen.

I actually haven't yet John! I'm new to country, got in through the pop stuff (before you say anything - I know, I know haha) I know some of the classics, but not all. My grandad was big into Country, unfortunately we didn't have the opportunity to bond over the music. Now I've found this side of country, I don't just feel at home, it's bigger than that. I'll check that out, but any recommendation is helping me on my journey!!

@@OliWilford To understand Red Dirt, you would need to get to know Bob Childers. He is a hell of a song writer and considered to be the father of the Red Dirt sound. You can go back to the outlaw movement in Texas, Waylon, Willie, Kris Kristofferson, Merle. You can see how the sounds have merged today.

I have not heard much of Hayden's music but boy is it deep and heartfelt. Since you liked this song you should check out "Rats Get Fat", which deals with the lows of addiction. Also, Gems has an artist named Josh Okeefe that is from around your neck of the woods. Even though he is a folk singer I think you should check him out, even if it isn't for a video.

The only thing I haven't done yet is seen him live!!!! I have been trying to make it down to see a show but I'm way up north of the border. So I just settle for all the live shows he dose now. Lol one day I'll catch him live...one day.

Mate, if you even make any T-shirts etc. I had an idea for a logo. 94 etched out of a Club (Playing cards Club). Club symbol in the background with simply 94 imposed over it. Just randomly did a basic on and it looks pretty cool. Just thought I would share. If you ever do it I for sure will get one.

This is my first time hearing this guy, this song really reminds me of The Damn Quails. I really struggled hearing the lyrics, I am glad you broke them down.
