A meth head, a crack head or any addict will steal from their mother, Allow their baby go without while they feed their habit with ill gotten gains, They will kill, steal & rob their best friends … Their selfish deprivation knows no bounds. As he says they are on the prowl. It’s sad reality. The drug of choice changes, but the reality remains the same.

A little tid-bit the line “little pictures have big ears” is an old timey saying in the States. It’s a covert way of saying the kids are listening and this is adult stuff you’re talking about.

The video begins moving from returning veteran yo returning veteran and allows those watching to hear the demons of war attacking the souls of the soldiers. Today, we know that as PTSD. One soldier has a shield between himself and those demons. He has the hope of a normal life with his loved wife. Dealing with PTSD leads some to seek the numbing of alcohol, others in the escape offered by drugs, still others become violent, anti social, or even suicidal. His wife does not just break his heart, she snatches that shield from him, casting him onto the rubble of those suffering from PTSD. He resorts to alco

Tyler grew up in a very poor area of Appalachia (eastern US). Since so many of the coal mines have been closed down, there is little work there. It has become an area of much drug addiction. However, it is beautiful area with great history. His voice definitely comes from the strife of living there.

Charlie was a true innovator. Most of his music was totally different than anything being played on country music radio, but it was ALWAYS country! Charlie, himself, stood for everything good about being a country person in the USA.

Counters dad was actually a politician in Saskatchewan. Not sure how Coulter ended up being a cowboy. I'm an Idaho (western USA) native. He's singing about towns in the state of Wyoming, right next to Idaho. Absolutely LOVE his voice and the style of music he writes/sings.

I'd like to also say if nobody else has said it; I Texas we call prisons "Farms" because there's always an agriculture activity built around the prison. I think they do the same thing in Lousiana.

Great reaction! I saw when it hit you both the story and the tempo. I had the biggest reaction coming home one day with music up high and it really highlighted how he orchestrated it to swell with intensity and make it sound like his heart beating out of his chest after his crime of passion. He is pretty brilliant with his artistry.

OK, a few things… For “Out on a Drunk” you speak about disagreeing with him in regards to someone not being able to change their wicked ways by saying that if people really want to better themselves that they have the ability to do that. This is true and a great message to share, but I believe he’s referring to people with alcoholism or drug addiction, which is a different story, but still one that many people can relate to. Think of a werewolf, who no matter how hard he wants to remain himself and how much he fights it, when that full moon comes out…he’s screwed. Also, backslider’s wine is Bourbon. Next, when he says “there’s things I can’t change” he’s not talking about not being able to change our poor behavior and decisions, but rather talking about having to live with the horrid mistakes that we’ve made in our lives. Living with judgments people have made about you, and accepting the consequences of our actions and moving forward as best we can. I love this line because most of the time it’s the refusal to accept the things we can’t change that causes people to return to using, as they can’t cope with the damage they’ve left in their wake. Purely stating the fact that there are things we can’t change shows maturity and courage to own up to our choices, and gives hope that things can get better in the future. Alright, now Honky Tonk Flame… Honky Tonk Flame refers to his aspirations of being a famous musician. The second verse “soft on the eyes” is spoken from the perspective of the woman. The entire verse, not just the line, “I’m a woman”. She’s talking about meeting the protagonist of the song and being taken by his looks, but when he tries to take her home at the end of the night, she states she’s different than the other skirts he’s been chasing around town as well as the honky-tonk flame he’s chasing, aka his dreams. I think the songs complement each other well because the first one speaks to a struggle that many of us have inside, doing things that keep us from being all that we can. As well as the shame and/or weakness that we feel when we are making these decisions. For some reason, it seems that when we find ourselves in these moments of our lives that we tend to feel alone, like the title of the song “nobody knows you when you’re down and out” it’s funny how when we need someone the most ius when it seems that they’re the farthest away from us, leading us to a sense of hopelessness or fear that we can’t do it alone. When Tyler has put all of these things in our head and things are looking pretty dire, he kicks into the redemption portion of the medley! Right on cue. Beautifully regaling us with a song of love and redemption. He takes us from a place of fast living and confusion and negativity with the focus on the self, and leads us to a place of simplicity, companionship, love, and redemption. My favorite part of this song is that the protagonist has grown wise, realizing that the love of a woman that loves him is all that he needs, while also still being aware of his flaws. That he’s still on the road after finding the woman whose love is all he needs because he’s good for nothing except writing the songs he sings, and chasing that honky-tonk flame. I love the lightheartedness of this line, that sometimes, although it may seem foolish, we have to go after our dreams, and if we surround ourselves with the right people, they’ll support and believe in us, no matter how crazy we may seem or far away that flame might be. All of this to say, I love the video, man. You can tell you put a lot of time and effort into this channel and the passion you have for the music shines through. I don’t mean any disrespect or ill will to you in any way. I wish people could offer their opinion to like-minded people more often in a non confrontational way. Then we could learn from each other’s perspectives and experiences. Sorry about the length of this comment as well. I didn’t mean for it to go on as long as it did, but I’ve been isolated for the past few months after being in a pretty severe accident so I have a lot of time to think about important stuff, like Tyler Childress lyrics lolol. I hope it didn’t come off as combative or argumentative. I only want to offer my two cents, in hopes that it will spark conversation or contemplation. Anyway, looking forward to the next video and keep up the good work, man!
