You can't compare the two situations at all. The Taliban were an extremist guerilla force fighting on their own turf who believed wholeheartedly in what they were doing. The British Army is too small to make a difference. It's only 78,540 not counting a small reserve. Then you have 2 support personnel for every combat soldier so that means the actually fighters with weapons fighting enemy soldiers is only 26,180. How is that going to make a difference?
