Looks like a dream wave for a surfski... They love to catch little ripples like when it was petering out and passed the surfer on river left. SUP would also be fun. But these longboards are awesome too of course. Frickin awesome all around.

greenster has this wave been revisited in the past five years? and if so was it breaking again?
@greenster10008 жыл бұрын
We have revisited it twice since this was shot. Both times a bust! The first time the wave was so small we didn't even notice it pass! The second time was a bit bigger, but not surfable. It's fickle for sure. Other than the size of the tide, the amount of water in the river seems to be a big factor. If it is flowing heavily, it seems to push the wave back & flatten it.
Why is that guy riding so damn close to the rocky shoreline? Why don't they just wait in the middle where that perfect wave is behind him first after the first few?
@greenster10008 жыл бұрын
This was the first time we had ever seen this bore, so we had no idea where it would break, or even if it would break at all, so it was all guesswork right up to the moment the waves arrived. Each subsequent attempt was further up the river and each time we had no idea where (or whether) it would break. He did get a few choice dings for hugging the river bank so closely :-)
@matusimiu18658 жыл бұрын
greenster1000 my question is what does make this waves on a river?
@greenster10008 жыл бұрын
It's a tidal bore. The wave is formed by a large incoming tide forcing water up the river. If the tide is big enough, the water going up the river forms a wave at the front. see en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Tidal_bore
@ericscaillet22325 жыл бұрын
@@greenster1000 do you know how many waves are generated during that time or if you miss it that's it
@greenster10005 жыл бұрын
Hi Eric, There is only one wave moving up the river. If you miss it, that is it. However if you miss it you can then get out and drive further up the river, overtaking the wave , and trying again at a new location. That is if you can get there before the wave. It's very hectic, but tons of fun :-)
