UK's first cystic fibrosis gene therapy trial

Almost £60 million of awards from the Medical Research Council (MRC) will help scientists gain fresh insights into illnesses and inherited disorders.
The funding to the University's MRC Human Genetics Unit and the MRC Institute of Genetics and Molecular Medicine (IGMM) will help doctors develop and deliver new tests and therapies for patients.
It will boost research into conditions such as schizophrenia, cystic fibrosis and genetic eye disorders including retinitis pigmentosa, coloboma and anophthalmia.

Cf is genetic my son has it and all the docs and nurses are great with all the treatments my son is 4 and he is one of the younger people that's going on the triel it gives me great hope for his life

Lack of funding for this disease is frustrating in the USA. I lost my girlfriend and mother of my little girl, Tara to CF. Our little girl is emotionally, way beyond her six years in dealing with Mommy's death due to this inherited disease. To hear of this research makes me so happy in the hopes that in the future, more families are not devastated by this nasty killer named cystic fibrosis like mine was.

Can someone tell me till now did this therapy have some "beneficial impact" on CF patients?

I know a guy that was on a study similar to this. He went from 40% to 70% lung capcity in just two weeks, and now he is fully healthy
