Some of those releases were actually double A-sided singles: Robbie Williams - She's The One / It's Only Us. A1 - Everytime / Ready Or Not. Lolly - Big Boys Don't Cry / Rockin' Robin Martine McCutcheon - Talking In Your Sleep / Love Me Muse's Muscle Museum would hit #25 in a re-release in October 2000. The girl in The Offspring's She's Got Issues music video is a young Zooey Deschanel.

It's Only Us is a banger of a tune! I remember it on FIFA 2000! Lolly, "Rockin Robin" got a lot more attention and was played on TV shows and radio then. I did prefer "Love Me" to "Talking In Your Sleep", I'll say that. Had no idea Zooey Deschanel was in that video!

An early showing for Madison Avenue's "Don't Call Me Baby", which would hit No.1 6 months later. I bought that "Karaoke Queen" by Catatonia back then although recently they have disowned that song (by excluding it from the reissue of that album). I love "Hooligan" by Embrace, nothing like what I expected of them at the time, it sounds more like Gomez. Also love the songs by Travis, Stereophonics, Suede, Gomez, OCS, Blur and Supergrass

First I've ever heard that Catatonia song and I'm not surprised they disowned it; sounds nothing like their usual sound

@@gnu_andrew The irony was, they originally wanted it as the 2nd single from Equally Cursed & Blessed, but their label insisted on "Londinium", a decision which the band were against, because of the lyrics. And yet it's the latter song that now remains on most recent reissuing of the album and not the former song.

@@Tohereknowswhen Thank you for clearing that up. I remember the furore about it, but didn't pay attention. Neither song is good in my eyes. At the time I thought 'Karaoke Queen' was a bad parody!

@@Tohereknowswhen thanks for the info. Funny, I remember "Londinium" but not "Karaoke Queen", probably because it did a bit better, getting to #20

Interesting how there was a comeback on mambo music in that whole era, that was going down very well with a new audience.

Loving the entries from Marc Anthony, Alena, Savage Garden, JLo, Travis, Robbie Williams, Groove Armada, Texas & Wamdue Project this month. My era!

Thank you for this Francis 👍 (Got a lot of catching up to do on your vids). At the time, I was celebrating my 15th birthday. Tomorrow (21/11), I am 40!! Where does the time fly? As mentioned Madison Avenue had a big hit a few months later with that song. I always thought Planet Perfecto sang 'There's a bullet in the head' lol!! Ah yes the Geri v Emma battle. I prefer Geri's song. I was surprised that Ricky Martin song wasn't a bigger hit as it got a lot of airplay that time. That Lolly video has some problematic scenes for today and some bad editing for 1999 😂 I heard a rumour that the woman in the Wamdue Project video was a star in adult circles at the time! The Millennium Prayer...no thank you lol! My favourites are Robbie Williams' emotional ballad 'She's The One'. Throw in the other side 'Its Only Us' is a stormer of a tune. My #1 here and of 1999 is the excellent 'The World is Not Enough' by Garbage. Probably the best Bond theme and an underrated group. J-Lo's catchy 'Waiting For Tonight'. Dancehall gem from Mr Vegas. Geri's pop ballad with a bizzare video. Underrated song from Feeder and the Motown influenced track by Texas. Throw in an excellent soul ballad from Beverly Knight and a great ballad from Mel C.

I hadn't realised "Millennium Prayer" was #1 for so long... I guess I wasn't paying much close attention to the charts back then. I'd just left school and started A-levels. I do remember the Groove Armada track (another Fatboy Slim remix) and the solo Spice stuff. We do tend to get some stinkers in the lead up to Christmas, but the Cliff Richard song and the Westlife pair of covers from 1999 must be some of the worst.
@some.random.baldie2111Ай бұрын
@@gnu_andrew I remember all the hubbub around it, and how some radio stations refused to play it. It was a shocker, and I think we dodged a bullet (I was team Westlife then, but 15 and not knowing much about music, I was naive). I am surprised the Groove Armada track wasn't a big hit, as that's probably one of the most well-known songs that have stood the time from this video. Agreed about stinkers, and the Lolly track is up there as one of them. At the time, her cover of "Rockin Robin" which was the double A-side got more attention than "Big Boys Don't Cry". No offence to her, but her voice was annoying.

@@some.random.baldie2111 I have my fair share of songs & artists I used to like but wouldn't go anywhere near now as well. With the exception of East 17 though, I've always been pretty adverse to boy bands. Westlife have less redeeming features than most, because nearly all the songs they've released have been slow ballads I'd struggle to distinguish between, and they did so many pointless covers of already very popular songs by the likes of ABBA, Billy Joel and Phil Collins. I've always felt a cover should do something different to warrant its existence. I hadn't realised the Groove Armada track charted so low. I remember it so well from the time, I just assumed it was around for more than a fleeting week in the lower top 20. It seems they released it again in 2004 but still only got to #11. I agree on Lolly's voice. I remember her doing a pretty awful cover of "Mickey" and then a follow-up, "Viva La Radio", but had lived in happy ignorance of any more songs from her until this video. I can see "Rockin' Robin" getting the attention in the run up to Christmas. The main song I remember in the run-up to that Xmas is the Hamster Dance song, which lost the competition with Westlife for the Xmas #1 spot.
