I'll never forget seeing one of these about 8 years ago. I live in a relatively small place in the UK, you rarely ever see planes, and when you do they are way above the clouds, the nearest airport is over 30 minutes away, and there's no military airbases anywhere near. So you can imagine my surprise just sitting in the garden during the spring as the ground starts to vibrate and one of these fucking things just slowly trundles over the top of my house. It evidently had a problem because there was notable grey smoke coming from the aircraft, and it was travelling extremely slowly and obscenely low to the ground for such an aircraft (probably the same altitude as the start of this video). I honestly thought it might be coming down to try an emergency landing somewhere or even crashing, but I never heard of anything happening in the news. But besides the point, it was an incredible sight to behold and one I won't forget in a hurry. I just wish I knew what it was doing haha

As for all this "blah, blah, blah" from our Russian friends, know this: The B2 bomber - along with other weapon systems, such as "Star Wars" or Strategic Defense Initiative (SDI) - achieved its intended goal without dropping a single payload on "Mother Russia"; the utter and complete destruction of the Soviet Union. Talk all the yang you so desire about its combat effectiveness, its (in)ability to avoid radar detection, speed, range, maneuverability, or anything else you can imagine, for it matters not. The USSR is no more. That was the purpose of this aircraft; to be a deterrent to the USSR in order to allow the United States to dictate to the Soviet Union the terms of nuclear arms treaties, to penetrate Soviet airspace and destroy strategic targets if necessary, but most importantly, to force the USSR and the failed concept of Communism to collapse in upon itself as it attempted to directly compete with the American Military Industrial Complex supported by Capitalism. In the end, Ivan, the history books show the following: B2 bomber - 1 USSR - 0 Thank you, Ronald Reagan, for your leadership and courage in facing down the Russian bear until it was no more...

@richardharris822910 жыл бұрын
Saulfn1# you obviously don't know much about these aircraft, RAF Fairford itself nor do you know where to look for the information. There has never been a time in the history of its service where 2 B-2's (or more) have been at Fairford and it hasn't been mission/exercise related. The B-2 is far too an expensive aircraft & vital platform to have 2 of them at Fairford on a pleasure visit. They are here on a training exercise to test the state of readiness of RAF Fairford should the need arise to call on RAF Fairford to operate it would be fully combat ready in less then 48hrs As RAF Fairford is a very quiet base most of the year the only time movements start hotting up is during the tattoo & combat operations. This is also why the B-52's have come over with them. As B-52's also operate missions out of RAF Fairford. www.spacewar.com/reports/US_deploys_2_B-2_bombers_to_Europe_for_exercises_999.html
