Nice to see a SAAB getting the attention it deserves. My biggest regret about my motoring career is that I never could afford a SAAB when they were a current brand.

OMG you really missed out. I'm 55 years old living in the US just north of Boston. My first experience with Saab cars was in my teens my best friend got 1989 Saab 900 turbo I loved it. I've owned 5 since then. I just purchased a 2011 9-3 convertible with just 65K on it. Java Metallic with tan cloth top. It's beautiful I feel blessed to experience this all over again. My daily is a 2020 Volvo but it isn't a SAAB.

I have a 1985 Saab 900i with a new MoT in silver and on Ronal Minilites like this. Mine has done 166,000 miles. Runs fine. I’ve had 11 Saab 900’s. I’ve also got a 1982 built Saab 99 in silver & on Minilites. These cars are dependable! Last forever & usually start first time even after a long period of off the road. Don’t knock Saab’s. Nice. Well done. My first SAAB was an Australian spec 1984 900 turbo (TU5M) in exactly this colour with the same seats. I bought it in 1988 and sold it in 1999. It was a good car. We did many long (1,100 miles each way) trips for a few years in temperatures up to 44C. It was good enough that I've stayed with the brand. The 1984 turbo was replaced in 1999 by a 1989 900 Aero/SPG (TU3M) in white. That was replaced by a 2007 9-3 Aero (2.8 V6) manual in 2012.

When you started to clean it I thought 'well it's not too bad' Then opening the doors I could see bits falling off so it is likely the underside is rotten. On the plus side the interior is in good condition and despite the headlining sagging it may be savable. It will be interesting to see if the engine is free and if it runs that will be a bonus. Edward does well and earns his keep getting rid of the cobwebs for Claire and he doesn't argue! Thanks for the post Elton and Claire. 👍👍

Automatic is for amateurs. I loved it and still miss it. Safe and secure on Swedish winter roads especially when you lived in the countryside. Snowstorms were no problem. Just put in a low gear and chew your way through the snow.

It is a great car indeed. My first car was a 1996 Saab 900 S, also an automatic. It was my dad's old car. I'm surprised you were able to find one of these older ones in automatic. Very rare for one of those and here in the US the automatic transmissions were not all that great on those cars. No idea how they held up in the UK but the manual gearboxes also had some issues on those back in the day I do remember. That being said, based on what I'm seeing in this video it does not look good for this car unfortunately. That's not to say that it can't be saved, but there is an awful lot of rust on that car that I'm seeing in areas that are integral to the overall structure of the car. That can be very difficult and/or sketchy to repair if you don't have the proper training or equipment to do it correctly. We still have yet to see the undercarriage of this car up on a lift. But if it's anything like what we've already seen or worse then I think this will have to become a parts car.
