Wonderful craftsmanship, and using only portable tools! That's proper problem-solving. I'm currently building a summer house (winter house by the time it's finished...) and have made one cock-up after another. Like measuring with absolute accuracy, but to the wrong side of a table saw blade. Anyway, I wouldn't even attempt anything with mitres as I find them so difficult to produce accurately. What you've done is superb.
@tomsmith90484 жыл бұрын
A good trick is to fix your chopsaw down to a homemade bench then use stopping block's for your timber to rest against once your first timber is marked and cut correctly fix your stopping block's and you can't go wrong
@ParaBellum20244 жыл бұрын
@@tomsmith9048 Thanks Tom. In my case, I set the fence on my table saw, but measured the wrong side of the blade, then when I checked my test piece, thought I'd set it up properly. Schoolboy error compounded by a belief that I can't make a mistake! I have used the method you described on previous projects though.
@tomsmith90484 жыл бұрын
@@ParaBellum2024 If it's a non sliding arm table saw I'd go back to the chopsaw its easier more accurate and safer but it's an individual choice depending on the size and composition of the material

What a fantastic job, is it a stupid question to ask if you started in a joiners shop, long before you went onto site work ,i just cannot imagine a regular chippy being able to get this all worked out and put together, whereas my own brother who was a shop joiner, talked in the same manner as you do , brilliant job.
@ukconstruction4 жыл бұрын
I did do Bench joinery as part of my carpentry and joinery apprenticeship at college but all my work was mainly on site, I read a lot of books and just carried on making joinery in my spare time and I apply a joinery approach to my site work from a setting out and planning point of view, I have made everything from curving staircases to full panelled rooms in mahogany but my main love was complex timber structures such as roofs and structural joinery, its all about having a love for the craft and having a go, thanks for your comment many thanks Peter

I thought you stated that you would be fixing the mitred frames in alternate sequence to allow them to be stained and sealed which makes sense, but you did not appear to do that?
@ukconstruction4 жыл бұрын
Hi Kevin, my polisher sealed the external side of the doors as we put them together, we where worried about shrinkage that may show unstained lines but the hardwoods moisture content was so low almost non existent when we put them together that we where confident that we would not see any shrinkage, and they have performed beautifully both on the interior side and the exterior side, you clearly watched and listen to the video!! top of the class for you mate, have a great day

Stunning doors amazing craftsmanship, but a question if I may Rob, why did you run the small trim router around all four edges, if you are going to have a rebate on both doors, so there is an overlap when the doors meet?
@samsingh20424 жыл бұрын
Hi Robin, love the doors, do you have a planer thicknesser and did you use it on the job, did you machine the final dimensions of the Sapele yourself. Sam

How did u do rebates. On router table or table saw. I had tearout using router when i used a router with new bit. As interlocking grain was a nightmare for routing. Love working with sapele.

How confident are you that the Sapele will not split given that you used ribbons of glue?
@ukconstruction4 жыл бұрын
The sapelle is first quality and we have used this for decades for all types of interior and exterior joinery, it's a really reliable timber species, from my experience the movement is minimal, I like to press the glued surfaces together with a good ribbon or bead of glue like you mention as this works great when you cant clamp or use a heavy press as in my case, I often do a test of the adhesive and method and try to break it apart for most jobs, thanks for your comment
