Because of your favorable review, I bought the bamboo model in concert size (AKBC23). Like you, it is also one of my favorite ukuleles! I love it’s looks, playability, unique sound, the extraordinary gig bag, the price, and that it is made from grass. The only difference between ours is that mine came with black (or dark brown) front and side position markers. Thanks, as always, for your superb reviews!

You are very welcome. I like that ukulele a lot. If I had to sell one of my Aklots, I’d keep the bamboo, but I’m glad they are inexpensive enough that I don’t need to!

Chris, Very nice comparison. After watching this video I re-watched the beginning of your review video and then watched the beginning of Steve's review video. There definitely seems to be some string slap noticeable with your Mahogany ukulele. That is fine if you like the sound it creates. Otherwise when you change strings a shim under the saddle can remove the string slap when playing individual notes and give more clarity to its nice bright tone. While wood shims are great, a dense cardboard would also be fine. Business cards and 3x5 cards work well. 0.5mm of shims would increase the action by 0.25mm at the 12th fret. That may be enough to remove the slapping sound if you want it removed. If you don't want it removed then just disregard this comment.🙂

Fantastic information. I’ll be checking this out soon (on the road at the moment away from the ukulele).

Thanks for the interesting review as you say both are such good value. I have both tenor and concert mahogany and a cutaway bamboo tenor. Love them all. Just interested in your comment re strings, what fluorocarbon strings do you fit? Interesting that a KZbin channel by Graham Hall in the UK recently reviewed the mahogany Aklot and he said he wished he had found the Aklot brand earlier as it would have saved him a lot of money over the last 20 years 😂. Thanks again ATB

I like just about every fluorocarbon that I have tried, but Martin M600s (Concerts and Soprano) are my go-to, as are M620 for Tenor. For Baritone I go with Living Water. I also like Worth (Brown or Clear), Oasis, UkeLogic, Living Water, Flight, or Fremont. And there are others. The only strings I really don’t like at all are D’Addario Titanium, and any set with wound strings (Low D & G on baritone, low G and C on other scales).
