I have a question: Why in the video were Katakana used for the names of the animals? I thought these were in Hiragana because they are the Japanese language and not loan words (except for some) and some have kanji. Thanks for making this awesome video, I was really interested in seeing this, but I can't from Australia.

***** True, Japanese words are usually written in Kanji (猫) or Hiragana (ねこ). Animal and plant names, however, are often written in Katakana (ネコ) especially in academia.

Why neko is written in katakana istead of hiragana?
@kazuekura96979 жыл бұрын
Animal & plant names are customarily written in Katakana especially in academia. But many animal names can be written in Kanji or Hiragana as well.

So, now Japanese call "lion" in English word instead of "shishi"? I also have other questions about animal names.- If dragon is "tatsu", what's the different with "ryuu"?- Does "byakko" mean white tiger in general or just mythical tiger?- What's the different between "washi" and "taka"?- What's the different between "juu" and "kemono" for beast?

Why are the animals names written in katakana? For lion, I understand that the word comes from English, but why katakana is also used for other names such as dog and cat? Thanks!
