Tractors blocking roads in European capitals has become a regular sight, with farmers mounting hostile opposition to policies designed to reduce their emissions. In the UK, replacing the EU’s Common Agricultural Policy was one of the chief prizes of Brexit, but implementation has been slow and bumpy while new trade deals have also exposed farmers to greater competition from foreign imports. Our expert panel will reflect on these developments, and the at-times uncomfortable intersection between agricultural policy and major global policy challenges, such as net zero, international trade, and food security.
Panel
Chair - Jill Rutter, UKICE
Minette Batters, former President of the National Farmers’ Union
Carmen Hubbard, Newcastle University
Alan Matthews, Trinity College Dublin
