Thanks. The barriers here make reasonably loud motor noises when they lower and raise. There's lots of carparks which probably have old and noisy barriers like these. Maybe not as slow.

It's a similar arrangement to Britannia bridge in Porthmadog, except that isn't a swing bridge. Many dock lines in places like Birkenhead had bridges that were shared by trains and road vehicles.

@UKLevelCrossingsChannel

Lol. A 6 track crossing here is the longest. And I like to think that this location is quite rare. You clearly have some more weird and wonderful railroad crossings =)
@freebrickproductions

I was rewatching this video when I noticed something. The gate lights on the crossing at 0:25 appear to be American Lantern-style gate lights made by WRRS (or Western Cullen Hayes, depending on when they were installed, but WCH has never bothered to change the molds on the bases so they all say "WRRS" on them), which is rather odd, especially since Lantern gate lights here in the US tend to be rather rare!

@UKLevelCrossingsChannel
@UKLevelCrossingsChannel 7 жыл бұрын
It's weird indeed. It seems that a lot of these particular wigwags (Forest City Halogens) seem to have different flash phases. These wigwags are very old and probably date back at least 30 years or so. The old equipment on heritage railway crossings rarely gets touched. Looks cool though and I see what you mean by being 'messed up'. Certainly looks a bit.

Intriguing how the alarms do not blare on the swing bridge crossing but they do blare on the rail crossing.
@UKLevelCrossingsChannel
@UKLevelCrossingsChannel 3 жыл бұрын
There are alarms for the swing bridge but they are only used if the swing bridge is in operation. This is because there isn't actually any point where pedestrians can cross the railway line on the bridge, and since the barriers are only blocking the road here, no alarms are needed. There are alarms at the other crossing with warning lights and the footpath crossing at the other end of the bridge (shown in the middle of the video).

@UKLevelCrossingsChannel

I'm not entirely sure to be honest. Since the trains follow a timetable and the boats don't, I would suggest the bridge operates in the gaps the train is at stations or either end of the line?

@UKLevelCrossingsChannel
@UKLevelCrossingsChannel 8 жыл бұрын
Thanks for your comment. The wigwags aren't *that* old since this crossing was most likely installed in the 1980s. There are some crossings with older wigwags. The railway is private here so there was a range of diesel and steam locomotives. I just happened to see these two pass. And since it was Halloween, a face was hung from the front of the steam loco.

Nice video of a Class 14 'teddy bear' and a Bagnall (I think) 0-6-0ST. seen one like it in real life (Ruswarp near Whitby) but it wasn't as strange as this one.

Huh. No gate skirts. Definitely a golden oldie right there!
@UKLevelCrossingsChannel
@UKLevelCrossingsChannel 8 жыл бұрын
Indeed. By the amount of dirt, rust, noise and the fact these don't have any skirts gives quite a clear impression these things are old and need replacing. The railway probably doesn't want to pay to install new ones. They still work fine to be honest.

I don't blame them for not wanting to. New barriers from any company are expensive these days.

What makes it a swing bridge?

The bridge deck lifts up and swings 90 degrees to allow boats to pass through to the marina. At the time I was there, I didn't see the bridge in operation.

Since the road enters and exits on the same side of the railroad track, I propose that we call this a “level tangent” instead of a “level crossing”.

UK Level Crossings: it's not rare because I see it happen all the time
@UKLevelCrossingsChannel
@UKLevelCrossingsChannel 8 жыл бұрын
What I mean by "rare" is of the location. I know trains cross here all the time. What I meant was that there isn't a level crossing and a swing bridge together, anywhere else in the UK.

Yeah, it's pretty cool. Level Crossings without barriers (open crossings) are gradually being upgraded / renewed with new barriers. You will mostly find non-barrier crossings on private railways like this one.

Can I ask in what way is it rare to see a train crossing it? It's in use every week at least twice for the bitumen trains. When the steam railway runs it's used numerous times a day.

When I meant "very rare", I was talking about the level crossing and not the frequency of trains. The crossing runs over a swing bridge which is very rare to see in the UK.
