Poole Harbour Lift Bridge, Poole, Dorset.
Location: Poole Lifting Bridge, A350, Poole
Date Filmed: 10-04-2019
The main lifting bridge and one of two bridges in Poole, Dorset crossing the waterway leading to Upton Lake (the other bridge being the Twin Sails Bridge). This bridge was closed for 16 months whilst essential maintenance and repairs took place. It opened in early 2018. The bridge is also known as a "Bascule bridge" and was constructed in 1927. In the videos of this bridge, the full sequence of the bridge raise is shown.

I used to be a Bus Driver for Wilts and Dorset. One day on my way into Poole, the bridge was raised, the tale back of traffic was hidious. It was a hot day, so I pulled up behind a truck and switched off the engine and opened to door. Next thing I knew was a car sounding its horn, I looked up to see a Bus Driver on his day off in his car shouting...Alan wake up. I had fallen asleep, the traffic had moved off, none of the passengers bothered to see if I'd died of a heart attack or anything, they all sat in silence while the truck pulled off. I was called Rip Van Winkle after that

Oh wow, what a funny story, thanks for sharing 👍 I agree with you on the bridge traffic though. I filmed this bridge again back in August this year and the traffic was awful. It was queing right across the bridge and it was a nightmare when the bridge was scheduled to raise.

🤭 - the passengers must check the driver is alright [medically] if he doesn’t appear to be responding to what’s happening in front of the bus - all buses have a smashable glass compartment containing a key to open the cab door to assist the driver, call an ambulance

That's the longest amber light sequence that I've seen on a wig-wag; it was on for about 10 seconds before the flashing red lights!😱

@@UKLevelCrossingsChannel It's strange because they're normally on for about 3 seconds before the flashing red lights. But if you're in Ireland, some wigwags have a flashing amber phase before the light goes to a still amber at the same time as when the alarms go off....

That looks completely different to what I remember it from old videos of this! Those sirens and barriers are something I've never known of in this country, although I could expect that as it is a bascule bridge. What I like most of all his how the actual structure itself hasn't changed during this renewal, and I also like the thin lights in use here. This is very different to the nearby Twin Sails Bridge. Nice 👍😁

@@kenzierd.181 Because it’s Louder than bells and it’s a constant noise, no interruption between sounds like a bell. Also apart from this one, they all use yodalarms, usually used in factories and places to follow a schedule (end of break, etc) or a warning system for if a large object is traveling through the factory or if it is used as a warning device for voice announcements.
