This is simply a test for employees to know their stuff, and if they approach you in a professional way you are perfectly reasonable . Snag is there are so few companies that have trained their front of house staff on how to deal with photographers . Really Security firms SHOULD know the laws as part of their training IF they are professional security , but especially if they are SIA certificated . Sadly all too often Security staff WITH SIA accreditation have little , no , or confused knowledge of public photography rights , and often trespass ( which they fail to know is a Civil matter, and then go down a confrontational route and often unnecessarily involve the police ) SIA are more to blame than the staff are , it is SIA’s responsibility to prepare candidates for all eventualities across the broad range of duties they will be asked to do as accredited SIA security . ‘Auditors’ are at least forcing companies to investigate the competency of the staff they are being supplied with , and when they find that they are unprepared, they should take the matter up with SIA , otherwise nothing will be done to improve the quality of the training SIA provide . It matters not if the ‘Auditors’ are polite or rude , they all come across far too often staff who are not qualified for the job they are in . I don’t blame the Auditor , even if they are rude, a properly trained professional will deal with the situation calmly without being drawn into aggression or threats .
