That's my old car!!! (look at my KZbin video entitled Fiesta Supersport 1). I bought it as a non-runner on ebay for £1000. Got it running, engine unleaded conversion etc and sold it for just under £6000 a few years later...(took me and the family to Florida!). God I wish I still had it!!! Nice job

Drive an mk1 during the winter here in Norway, wash it at least once a week with all the terrible salting of the roads, its rust-free for now, planning to keep it like that and might take it apart and paint it next summer if I'm bored

I had a MK1 xr2 and it was the best fun car ever,mine had engine mods and a big bore exhaust and it sounded great and was a good performer.i wish I still had it today but when I sold it they were so low in price and I never even thought about how much they fetch now.the supersport fiesta was a great car in itself too.

I had 3 MkI XR2's - great fun to drive, easy to mod. My last black one had a 1700cc engine built/fitted at Specialised Engines, Janspeed exhaust/manifol, K&N air filter, re-jetted carburettor, 40% uprated 1" lowered springs with Bilstein struts all round. Had the wheel rims diamond cut, with the pepperpots sprayed gloss black to match the car...it was a fabulous car to drive, looked really tidy too. If I had the money today I would buy another one and restore it...

Those wheels always looked better to me, than the later pepper-pot style. I grew up near Dagenham where Ford’s were all but worshipped - the S models were always my favourite, I wasn’t a huge fan of the transition to the “XR” cars. The S cars with black and white Recaro’s and mesh head-rests, just screamed Motorsport.

I haven't seen all of this episode.But I hope it has got the right gearbox.It should have equal length drive shafts.Only on the Super Sport.If not it might aswell be a 1.3 Ghia with a WEBER on.The later generation of the Super Sport gearbox idea .Was used on the first Focus RS

I had one exactly the same as this, reg SLR 428W. Looks like it was taken off the road over 20 years ago according to the DVLA website. Hard to believe what they sell for now, as it was a pretty raw and slow driving experience from what I remember.

I bought a new 1.3S GRX 280W as a replacement for an MGB GT which spent a lot of time in the garage. The Fiesta was a great car and I enjoyed every minute of it. I've just bought a FIST Performance and what a car that is. Ford were well advanced in marketing and styles and I'd happily pay £24,000 for this car.

It is a shame though that these cars cost so much now, I would actually be shitting myself driving this on the roads of the UK in 2021, and these cars should be driven!! They are cars come from a different time, the roads are full of morons with no clue about cars, now.. But, it is lovely to see them still going!

Not too sure if those Yokohama tyres would have been fitted at the Ford factory. I believe they were probably originally fitted with Pirelli P6 tyres from new. A Motorcraft or FoMoCo battery would have also not gone a miss with a complete attention to detail.

Yes, that is correct. I owned a White Super sport after I pranged a Scirocco mk1 and it was fitted with Pirelli P6's...as a few have said on here....attention to detail was not there.

Wrong fog lamps too. The ones fitted are the ford accessory ones. Standard fitted ones were metal backed with no lump on the top.

Decent paint is far more durable than powder coatings. One chips starts the destruction with powder coating. Using 2k epoxy primer and paint used for sea ships now your talking.

As a cautionary note to anyone that thinks they made £3k profit. A dealer has to pay vat on the margin ie difference between what they paid for it and sold it for. And if most of those input costs were non vatable then that’s a thumping loss / broke even.

I have had all the xr2's mk1 ,2, and 3 but my favorite was always the mk1. I alsoo had a RS1600i fitted with a remapped RS turbo engine while my mate had a 79 RS2000 fitted with a RS 500 cosworth engine . I think he was the second person to do the conversion in the UK after Paul Bailey of Bailey motor sport. We were always thrashing them around Llandudno and North Wales

i know very little about fords , personaly i got owned taunus 1.6 coupe 1976, and thats all from ford , in my country they never been popular , yesterday i meet guy who's in cars buy sell and he offered me this type of fiesta but as i remember its 1.6 around 90hp , so i dont know why specialy Britains are interested in this car and fords generaly ..dont know ? i now Holandese made them ,, maybe germans , i dont know is it made in britain also ? there is few older fords models still around ,

The Supersport decal was not standard, it was an aftermarket sticker made in the style of the famous Escort Mexico logo.

Looks fantastic but some details are wrong... Tyres should be P6, back box should have a longer tailpipe, washed bottle is old, driver seat belt is fitted wrong(buckle faces inwards). Later models did not have "Supersport" badging.

Yes - and the real-life seat belts have two extra stitches and no door on the passenger side. The radio aerial is made of wood in the originals, as was common back in the 50´s.

For a car they stated 'We need to get this car perfect' just so many things wrong with it for a car that is supposed to be perfect, where is the Super Sport badge at the rear, can you see the state of the washer bottle under the 'You could eat your dinner' bonnet. there is so much detail missed for a perfect car. The cars been round the bloody world but they didn’t mention that. In 2006 it had 8 miles on the clock, I didn’t see an engine rebuild in this! And it’s had rust issues in previous mot’s considering it was restored. I’m in no way hating I love old fords but why not rebuild the engine, if that had done 8 miles from 1981 to 2006 it would be in a museum.

Well the escorts were no faster than the Fiesta supersport & even then, the Escort wasn't really an inspiring car. If we're talking technical sophistication, a Hillman Avenger was a superior option & the Morris Marina often outsold the Escort. Performance wise, Vauxhall & Chrysler/Talbot had faster cars with similar motorsport heritage, those being the Vauxhall Chevette HS & the Talbot Sunbeam Lotus, both rear wheel drive hatchbacks with top speeds over 120mph & 0-60s under 8 Seconds. Even the Triumph Dolomite Sprint would out-perform the RS1800 Escorts. The escort as a performance car just wasn't that competitive until the Mk3 with the XR3, XR3i, RS1600i & RS Turbo. I've always liked the Escort but hated the people that make it out to be more special than it really is & command stupid money for them. We're at the stage now where a Mk2 1.3 Popular can fetch over £15000. The Escort was designed as simple transport, it just so happened to be a competitive rally car with the right drivers, stiffened chassis & tuned twin cam engines

Had a red XR2 when i was young, fantastic sporty look but awful handling, the front axle clearly couldn't manage the meager 83hp, i'm sure the Supersport having less power and torque was actually easier to drive.
