Suspilne listened to 20 songs. They focus on live performances, on how the artists perform on stage. That’s the most important thing. Almost all Wildcard participants performed worse live, even if they might have had better songs.

12:18 "maybe they're ultra famous" - nope, they aren't. It's a jam band, a group of people occasionally befriended each other when they met in Kyiv after the start of Russian invasion. Some of them are street musicians I believe. Most of Ukrainians haven't heard of them before our national selection at the end of 2024. I think this song was chosen for finals for the diversity sake. It's a really nice song, I feel its vibes - but I agree it's not so powerful like some songs from the wildcard. 24:58 This band got explosive popularity after the release of S.T.A.L.K.E.R. 2. If I'm correct, there are 3 songs by DK Energetyk in it. And... well, the band took its name from the "club" in Pripyat (Dim Kultury "Energetyk" on Kurchatov street, 10). Their music is giving the vibes of post-nuclear Chornobyl. It's a sound that many of us feel for now. So that's the case when "they're ultra famous" stands up a bit. And that may be the reason they're in the final selection. Oh, and your theory... gorgeous! Thank you for it! IMO Yagody should have been selected to the finals as well as Fiyinka. And Mon Fia, and Muayad, and Slukhay Sashu. And if it was done so, there would be just Ziferblat, Khayat and DK Energetic to be contenders for them. I think the list of actual finalists is more wide in terms of genres - but less powerful for ESC. Actually it's a problem. Ukraine doesn't have any other big platform for the beginning artists to get the audience. So the main purpose of Vidbir slowly shifted from choosing the best song for ESC to presenting the upcoming stars to the listeners. It's more internal than external purpose.

Lol are you serious? Wildcard songs were so goddamn boring and unmemorable besides a couple of exceptions. Ukrainians might not want to be defined by exclusively sopilka, drymba, bandura and white voice singing (even if we're very proud of all those folk elements). There's so much more than Ukrainian music can offer to the world. Ziferblat, for example, embodies the tradition of Ukrainian music of 70s, modernizing and bringing some glam to it.

Thank you for your reaction, what can I say, it's absolutely normal when a song doesn't work for you the first time. But in May in Basel, I will definitely have someone to vote for 🤞 Over the years of watching the Ukrainian vidbir, as a Ukrainian, I can tell you exactly what we look for: - The meaning of the song, remember last year's song by Melovin "dreamlover", for which people didnt vote, - the language, ukrainian mova must be in the lyrics, if the lyrics are in english, there will be a lot of hate, so bilingual is better. - most of the contestants want to raise their 💰 for the performance and sell tickets to their concerts, so not all participants want to go to Eurovision. - We are all big critics and when there are a lot of backing vocals, there will be a lot of hate 😅 But this makes us successful in production and because we love Eurovision very much, because it is a great opportunity to show our country - rich culture and people.
@JanBors50 минут бұрын
Yes, surely, I was commenting on music, not this essential principle. On the one hand you have artists who need a promo, on the other hand you have TV who should find a way how to get the best songs from the best possible artists (not necessary the most famous, but the ones with the international ambitions and appeal). I know and I am glad that Ukraine takes Eurovision as a serious project. But still, It feels like absolutely different selection than previous years. Like big shift on what kind of music is going in.
@Uaspacegirl32 минут бұрын
@JanBors Yes, I understand that you are making a reaction to the music, not a personal assessment 🎶🥹 I like that artists are not afraid to offer their own format, their own sound and uniqueness and prove why it should be heard and known. All of us in the comments on the Suspilne channel note how many strong performers there are this year and no obvious losers. The selection is different, you are right, perhaps because of the taste of this year's producer Tina Karol (Eurovision 2006). For me, everything will be decided during the live performance

Such a grumpy reaction! Vidbir has two goals: to select the contender for Eurovision and to expose interesting promising new artists to the national audience. That is why there is always a lot of originality, experimentation, and a very wide variety of genres including ones that don't usually get sent to Eurovision. The meaning of the lyrics is important for Ukrainians, although it isn't for you. Adding English gives an international audience an idea of the song. It's strange that you feel more comfortable not understanding anything than understanding part of it. You have a very specific taste because you reject everything but "Kultura".
@JanBors3 сағат бұрын
music does not need translation, you feel it or you dont, I feel Kultura from musical and quality levels as it has it. In past apprx. 10 years quality of Vidbir never was so low, thats the bar Ukraine set itself.. Sorry. You can have opposite opinion, I am fine with it. Its fine.

Music taste is subjective, so you're entitled to your own opinion and it's okay. But you have even a problem with them switching between two languages, which mind you Teresa and Maria had too, and we remember it ended up #3. Many countries do the same. So at this point, I can't help but start thinking that you just hate for the sake of hating or...were just hungry and not in the mood. Have a snack or a drink before reacting to anything. A friendly sujestion 😁

I don’t like switching the languages too. It confuses the listener more than it gives to understanding the song. And I don’t think the Eurovision crowd really needs to understand the lyrics. You can transmit everything you want by your emotions and staging, and whoever wants they will come and read the translation of the lyrics or watch you on press conference where you’ll speak about your song. I don’t have a problem connecting to, let’s say, French performances which are usually at French and I don’t understand a word. They don’t play at this “half French, half English” thing, and it still works. Barbara Pravi’s performance is a great example. But speaking of the overall reaction I also felt like @JanBors wasn’t in the mood or something. But I guess it’s a preferences issue. As I didn’t like the wild-card songs at all, opposite to Jan and I love almost each song from the final selection.

I also prefer Ukrainian language, instead of English. I like it when countries sing in their own native language,show their culture, instead of generic english songs. And what I know for sure is that so many of these songs are stage oriented. So let's wait for the 8th of February and see how they perform on stage. I trust our professional enough to create a masterpiece. Plus, they can always revamp those songs a bit more. Most of these singers are young and do everything themselves. They'll get proper help when it comes to Eurovision 😊
@adriana_rayer10 сағат бұрын
@@Radionsobolev Yes, I prefer native language too. This is the point of Eurovision - to show your culture and language. But again, I see so many reactors say: oh, I don't understand the lyrics I don't know how to sing along 😅 Though nobody had a problem singing along with Go_a, right? What fascinates me is that all of the reactions I've seen so far have a completely different favorite song. Like completely. And I agree with you, I liked 2 songs in the wild card selection and I personally don't feel that the wild card list was better than those 10 final ones. And yeah, the reactor was definitely not in the mood. It's okay to be honest, absolutely. But I personally feel like it's the strongest vidbir. Because I really don't know who's going to win this one. All the previous years we had 2-3 clear favorites and the others were filling the number 😅

again - I am not comparing Ukraine at this moment with other countries. This is not neccessary as it always deliver its own quality and its a top quality all the time, unless this year selection. In compare to previous years, I feel its a solid downgrade. Its also not about proving and it is - Eurovision is a competition, so you need to prove something if you want to succeed. If the goal is just to take part, fine, but I cannot low down standards mine and also standards which Ukraine set to itself. Professional life is always about proving, thats why its dynamics is huge and cruel

@@ІринаМілошевськаSome residents of prosperous countries are incapable of sympathy for Ukrainians and a realistic assessment of the situation. And they naively hope that when the Russians destroy the Ukrainians, peace will finally reign, and everything will be as before for them. They do not realize that the old world order has been destroyed forever in favor of the Russian Empire. "The only goal and the very way of existence of any empire is its constant expansion in space and time" (the law of dialectics). EU countries capitulate very quickly. For Ukraine, any participation in any international cultural, artistic, and sports events is important, because it is an opportunity to raise the spirit and mood of its people and prove to the world that Ukraine has not died yet, that the Ukrainian nation continues to fight for its existence, and to remind the world of the values of democracy and human civilization, of the supremacy of international law, of human dignity, of humanity.
