Let's make it clear: Orban is not a gangster begging for aid money. He asks for the money due to Hungary. Hungary should have received 21 bn euros from the post-COVID EU recovery fund. That fund is not coming from the richer countries but it is a perpetual loan taken by the EU from where?? from the so-called international money market, let's presume. That eternal indebtedness was opposed by Orban but he had to accept it, finally. The EU has unlawfully blocked it since 2022 claiming unfounded accusations on Hungary like lgbt+ rights--when they are allowed to make 2 parades annually, etc. The EU withheld another 10bn which would have helped Hungary recover 30% of its border fence spending, since 2015, with which it withholds hundreds of thousands of migrants entering the EU... So, you are a member state after you "privatised " your economy, sold it to Western companies for nothing...opened up your market, made huge unemployment at home and now you are at the mercy of international companies.... You also gave up your sovereignty in 27 fields, (but now they want all of your sovereignty!!), and you paid in the common budget for 20 years!! since 2004 it acceded the EU , but still, you can't have the money every other EU member had and what you commonly took as an eternal debt. Now comes Zelenski, who provoked a war, by treating its minorities as he did,refusal to implement the Minks accords, who didn't want to stop it, 10-to 20 million Ukrainians fled his regime, and are in the EU--many hundred thousand in Hungary itself, where their children are taught in Ukrainian!!, while the ancient Hungarian minority (which became minority after 1945 when the SU annexed that territory and connected it to the Ukrainian Soviet Socialist Republic ....) has its language banned in schools, at hospitals etc. Now this guy, Zelenski, goes all over the world and begs money for the so-called "defence of the freedom of the West..." Ukraine is a non-functional state, 50% of its citizens left for the West, where life is easy, why aren't they fighting the Russians??? to defend the "West"--well yes they are defending it in the West...The West was not attacked, ukraine was attacked which is neither an EU nor a nato country, so what? What is the difference between Ukraine and Syria or Iraq, and Afghanistan??? Did the EU provide 55 bn to Iraq or a mere 1 bn to Syria for reconstruction or humanitarian aid?? Did they provide weapons to fight Isis or whoever? How much do they donate to Lybia, Palestine, Kurdistan, Uyghurstan, Lebanon or Egyptian Christians, How much did they donate to Armenia, a Christian, orthodox country to defend itself from Azerbaidjan? how many weapons did they send to Armenia, to Checnyia, Osetia, Abkhazia etc all under the attack of a more powerful neighbour or state???

PM Orban is very cautious at this time but at the same time the EU needs to reach out to Ukraine which is in suffering mode from the ongoing war . Ukraine is devastated by the war and all EU members need to contribute with Financial aid to rebuild úkraine. Keep up the good work Palki.

This is so weird to me. How can you admit a country that is currently at war? So if Ukraine is admitted while the war is still going on which part of Ukraine will become part of the European Union? Does Kyiv and Odessa join the EU and Mariupol and Bakhmut stay part of Russia or do those Russian controlled cities join the EU too? What happens if Russia takes over all of Ukraine will Ukraine join the European Union or will the Russian Federation that Ukraine is now a part of join instead? I know these questions are a bit silly but my point that's it's ludicrous to talk about any nation joining the European Union when that nation is currently fighting a war. Countries at war have literally disappeared off the face of the Earth. Remember the Ottoman Empire? How about Austria Hungry? For all we know the Ukraine that is currently the subject of EU discussions may not even exist when this war is over. It's entirely possible that large portions of what we now refer to as Ukraine may disappear and become part of the Russian Federation. Now you may not like that but what is the EU going to do if they grant membership and the territories currently being fought over all fall to Russia and Ukraine signs a peace treaty formally giving up these territories? I think it's stupid to hold talks right now because Zelensky may not even be the President by the time this war ends and Ukraine may not exist or may look very different when the war ends. It just seems like the EU playing politics by accepting half a country because right now that's about all they would get.
