Ukraine: Russia hits energy sites as Zelensky calls for air defence systems • FRANCE 24 English

Russia launched a "massive" missile strike at Ukraine overnight, damaging four power plants in the latest barrage targeting the country's energy supply, officials in Kyiv said on Saturday (April 27). Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky called on Kyiv's Western partners to supply more air defence systems to protect his country's skies. FRANCE 24's Shirli Sitbon tells us more.

The patriot systems are not that great. Each rocket cost millions to fire so it's incredibly expensive. And Russia can simple fire a bunch of dummie rockets to exhaust the system. On top of that, once these systems fire they reveal their location so it's not really the defensive wonder weapon they like us to believe. Also, one of these systems might cover a medium sized city so to effectively form a defensive shield with these systems Ukraine needs a lot of them. And then once they are all destroyed again, they will beg for new ones. It's like conducting a failed experiment over and over again and expect a different outcome.
