First, it is not an additional 50 but 76. We all could not understand why it was taking so long. We have the answers now. All F-16 dedicated to Ukraine need to be upgraded to a new flight avionics suite along a weaponry avionics suite which includes three radars with missiles control. All F-16 have "block 50" engines and electronics upgrade which comply with F-16 E/F generation airfoil, not what was published at first but now make more sense. Poland wanted to send part of its F-16 fleet but the ones it could supply had airfoil (aircraft manufacturing methods) that were too old though some of Poland fleet meet the F-16, block 50 so it will be revamped and be sent to Ukraine when they receive their F-35. Block 50's aircraft were manufactured in the 90's by Lockheed Martin while the previous blocks were manufactured by General Dynamics. The Increased Performance Engine program led to the use of F110-GE-129 engines on the Block 50 and F100-PW-229 on the Block 52. Engines made by GE.

In fact it was decided after the USA has not committed itself in sending one single unit so Ukraine DoD decided that the 24 who went to USA for training were the first and last batch. It could lead the EU members who are part of NATO to change their purchases and adopt the Sweden Gripen 39, the French Rafale or the UK Eurofighter Typhoon and Japan Mitsubishi F-X in greater numbers.

@@WillReims-s2s I happen to live in Tucson, AZ, where some of the Ukrainian pilots were trained to fly F-16s. So the United States DID train some of the F-16 pilots. It was specifically mentioned that the end of their training would coincide with the delivery of the first aircraft. @@jpip1382 I’m not saying that 30 years ago the Russians were not building decent fighters. However they have failed to keep the majority of them up to date. The USSR doctrine acknowledged this and focused on air defense, trying to balance the playing field. The Russia of today seems to have followed that play book. In a one to one fight NATO aircraft will usually win, if Russia can use its air defense to thin them out all the better. That said as long as Ukraine can keep those air defenses a non factor the current Russian planes will lose out.

Way over Moscow, their last "jet propelled one reached 1,800 km last week (2024.08.20) which can carry over 400 kg payload. Russian airfields are in blaze for quite sometime, same as Russia's refineries and oil depots among several other military targets such as bridges, equip and ammo manufactures.

The air frame might be from the 1980s but the upgrades sensors/avionics etc will not be. In terms of engaging Russia, having the ability to see from afar (sensors) and the weapon payload (modern) are super important.

A better comparison believe it or not.. would be the su30 and f15 and I read the f15 just came back out with all the latest tech and it’s pretty badass.. su30 has thrust vectoring but the f16 is a violent airframe. It’ll be interesting to see if they do get into it. The f16 can fly longer it’s a lot smaller but it’s also not as fast and can’t fly as high.. whoever has rhe best tech… and I would imagine Russia might have it on spec f16 they were sent. If the f16 gets something later model radar and the latest aa missiles look out.

From which rag did you read this B.S. Do you actually think that Ukraine will publish its real numbers. As far as what was published at the last NATO General Assembly in USA last July, Ukraine will have a minimum of 76 of them ready before the end of 2025. They will all be revamped with most modern avionics suite along with ammo control system and three radars which will work within a single platform made to relevant Ukraine territory and tip-top shape airfoils and engines.
