Trying to avoid Russia ressorting to tactic nukes. There's many possible targets, and most are outside Ukraine, in NATO territory. Worst, targets beyond NATO, on any NATO ally. There's a reason why Russian submarines and vassals have been sailing the oceans, everywhere North to South. Nosing around, doing terrain surveys, mapping submarine cables and infrastructures, becoming increasingly more arrogant. The russian submarines are now blantantly almost causing crashes with western vessels in North Atlantic.

Mobilisation. You need to get it RIGHT. It’s working fine in Ukraine. Most people are not going to volunteer to go to war. That takes an exceptional type of person. People in Ukraine do recognise they are going to be called up (mobilised) so are making the best of the time they can with their loved ones. The bit that didn’t go right was that Zelensky left it a bit late, but better late than never. Regards people leaving the country. We’re talking about thousands, (a drop in the ocean). The pool to choose recruits from inside Ukraine right now is in the millions. It isn't a war for territory. It is a war for hearts and minds. If UA becomes a successful Western country (like PL) then it would be the first of the major Slavic states to throw off the dead wood of the RU Empire. This is an existential threat to the kleptocracy of VVP, Lukashenko and the other dictators out that way. VVP doesn't want or need the territory at all - as you rightly note. What he wants and has striven for since 2004 (Orange Revolution) is a pliant and compromised UA regime in Kiev that is beholden to Moscow. Like Minsk. He won't ever now get it which is why he lost this war on Day1.

Lend lease act is widely credited to have helped Europe hold off Germany until we got involved. At the very least it was a massive help. Without it there's a decent chance Europe would be speaking German today. Fun fact Republicans voted against lend lease unanimously.
