In 1991, Russia was 31% Christian. Today, Russia is 78% Christian. The Orthodox Church has grown massively in Russia with a reversal of secularism. What does Doug attribute to this growth of Christianity in Russia? What can America emulate and learn from them to replicate this success?

I can only go halfway with Doug on this one. He brings up some good points about the deep-seeded issues here that go back centuries, that we need to have a full view of history, and about Russia invading over the *idea* that Ukraine might get nukes. I do have a few issues 1. This seems to not be an all out blitzkrieg as Russia hasn't taken out much, or if any, cellular infrastructure, internet, etc. This seems to be an extremely calculated measure, securing the parts of Ukraine that are ethnically Russian and who have previously voted to be apart of Russia. Don't forget that Ukraine has basically shut off water to Crimea, and has been shelling the Donbas region nonstop for at least the last 5 years. Russia drew a line in the sand years ago and western powers have kept poking the bear. 2. On top of that, Zelensky is a literal comedian installed by the US as a puppet president to launder money for western elites. He is only there to support the west's agenda of spreading liberalism and effectively turning the country into a degenerate hellhole. The west doesn't actually care about Ukraine or it's people otherwise they wouldn't be praising Zelensky for conscripting men 18-60, and handing out weapons effectively making his people meat shields to protect him and the west's façade. They only care about their idea of liberalism being spread to every nation. 3. Last, but most important, Ben brings up how everyone seems to be unified over this issue and hints that he thinks it is strange. I would just caution that this is exactly what this regime wants- to unify everyone that has previously defected from it. People have been slowly but surely defected since the War on Terror was sold to them and each year more people's eyes are opened to the absolute destruction and ugliness of this project of liberalism/globalism by western elites. Just yesterday these people were all lying to us about Covid, lied to us about WMDs, lied to us about the NSA, etc, etc. Why should we expect them to be telling the truth this time? They only care about their project of liberalism and it can only be accomplished if everyone is on the same page/unaware of what is actually happening. It is an extremely complex situation. We need to be in prayer and remember to have a clear head about all of this. The Lord is sovereign and in control of all.

I can't critique everything, and its not a horrible take but two points: On trade, Russia is both securing oil dominance and wheat dominance. It was already dominant in wheat exports, being the number #1 exporter in the world, and will only get more dominant with the disruption and control of the Ukrainian wheat supplies. On NATO expansion. Ukraine was openly posturing joining NATO. Once Ukraine would, Ukraine could harbor missiles, and Russia couldn't do anything about it. Russia is doing what is necessary for its survival. Western oligarchs have Russian resources in crosshairs. Russia is a symbol of trust and given word and honorable warfare compared to NATO. Everyone cries about Ukraine where Russians are holding back big weapons to save people and infrastructure, while the west is sending and funding mercenaries and pumping weapons for further devastation to keep their puppet as president. Ukraine is mostly intact compared to what NATO did to Serbia. You should be ashamed of your double standards. Just because your Media wants to pump narrative, you all jump along. Respect for attempting to navigate this when many pastors aren’t. Also, thank you for saying it’s complex. One quibble- the Cuban missile crisis analogy is brought up because: 1. Ukraine receives billions in both military funding and equipment from Western countries already. That number has risen since 2014. 2. Last year Zelensky vowed to take back Crimea and our secretary of state expressed solidarity in a joint press conference. 3. There is an ongoing conflict in eastern Ukraine involving militia groups and Ukrainian government against pro-Russian groups and some Russian forces already. This war has been going on for eight years already. This is an escalation in it. 4. If Ukraine joins NATO, and attempt to take back Crimea, or perhaps the ongoing conflict, would pull the entire West into conflict with Russia because of NATO’s engagement rules. 5. The Russian ambassador complained last year about five Wuhan style bio chemical weapons labs in Ukraine that are in fact American. As you can see it’s more complex then, “Well they don’t have a missile” even though zelensky wants one. Its more like, this is the death of a thousand cuts. Ukraine broke the Minsk agreement and so Russia has no guarantees from them or us, since we just told Russia last year Ukraine can join NATO, that Ukraine isn’t and won’t continue to be a stronger threat. Agree with most the the analysis. Putin invading seems very wrong to me, but if Mexico took the same steps Ukraine is taking with the backing of China I imagine similar conversations would be happening here. It’s a little bit closer to the Cuban missile crisis than it is Hitler invading the Sudentanland or something, for purely imperial motives couched in defending Germans when there wasn’t a threat.

Ukraine is geographically crucial. Ukraine as a staging ground for Nato tanks would leave Russia constantly vulnerable. From Ukraine Russia is a wide open flat plain versus armies coming over more difficult terrain from other Nato countries. Putin sees this as a vital security issue. Keep Nato and the EU out of Ukraine. Keep Ukraine as a buffer state between the West and Russia. Doing otherwise drives Putin into the arms of China and possibly WWIII.

Maybe it wasn't well thought out the way the question was stated, but asking "what should Christians think about Ukraine" frames the question as asking Doug what our opinion should be. Instead of asking for any insight on the situation. In the church we often elevate teachers as the arbiters of all our opinions. I understand we live in a world of untrustworthy news sources and we as Christians are often left looking for words of wisdom from Men we trust. But might I suggest we pull back from having strong opinions on situations like these and being sucked into inadvertently siding with agendas we shouldn't. In Odessa hundreds were killed in a fire, etc. So since 2014 Russia has been at (proxy)war with Ukraine. Joining Nato of such a beligerent nation on your borders is political suicide. During its annual exercise as per ABC news admission US intellegence guessed an invasion to occur. This revealed to Russia that: 1 US intelligence was lacking and pridefull hogwash. 2. As per Bidens reaction sending some weapons meant nuclear war was not concidered. Thus war became a viable option. So on 21 feb. 2022 Luhansk and Donetsk independance was recognised. I don’t know much about the conflict in Russia and Ukraine, but I have heard directly from some Ukrainian refugees here where I live in Texas. They shared some of the atrocities which took place in their hometown by order of the Russian military. It was shocking. And while the situation most certainly is very complicated indeed, it’s little wonder so many Americans have sided with Ukraine. On the other hand, my husband has told me of Russian News articles he has read which detail similar atrocities from the Ukrainians against the Russians for decades. Which doesn’t exonerate Russian war crimes, but it might explain them. All in all, as an American who is watching my own borders trampled down by legions of foreign trespassers, I cannot understand why our Commander In Chief has sent our soldiers and resources to Ukraine.

We couldn't directly attack Cuba because the missiles were there. We could attack Saddam because his capacity to hit us back here wasn't completely developed. That's what Russia's doing. And based on our past actions, what we would be doing in their place. Secondly, take a look at who immediately jumped to cancel Russia and the tactics they're using, seizing bank accounts and such. They're a bigger threat to us than Russia is (in any situation short of a nuclear exchange, of course) and are more like to act against us as they did during the covid hysteria.

That line about the inability to arrange a two car funeral was priceless. I agree with Doug's point concerning NATO. We should never have made those promises to Ukraine; by doing so we poked the very xenophobic Russian bear. We are now stuck in this tar baby situation - the notion of permitting a country to invade and take over a sovereign state is horrid, but we are wasting resources we will need very shortly to defend ourselves from the Communist Chinese. That country will first take over Taiwan, a nation with which we have strategic needs (all the high tech manufacturing we foolishly gave up fifty years ago), and then, using biowarfare (wuflu was just an early experiment that went awry before it was perfected), EMP, and neurostrike weapons to defeat us before we can even launch one of our outdated missiles.

Before every war there's a long period of mental conditioning and psychological preparation. No one wins a war-all are losers. Many lives are lost and even more are shattered. Countries and economies are destroyed; bodies are broken; suffering and sorrow flourish. Children lose the innocence of childhood, young men and women lose the joy of youth, the elderly lose the peace of their twilight years. Everyone loses in the wars of man. Even those who wage war and think they win because they come out on top lose also, for evil gives no reward. Those who live by the sword will also die by the sword.
