Ukraine takes new approach to remedy soldiers shortage | DW News

Ukraine is continuing to urge its allies to boost arms supplies after Russia made some advances on the frontline. After months of what appeared to be a stalemate in the war, Ukraine withdrew its troops from the key eastern town of Avdiivka in February. Moscow says it has since taken control of several villages around it. Ukraine is trying to plug its front lines and now has a new approach to mobilize volunteers.

Yeah it's basically a trick. Same thing happened in America, people were afraid they might be drafted so they would join the military in some kind of capacity that would mean they weren't drafted in at least then they had some control. But they were eventually just deployed anyway.

Which is an unreal idea, the humans species is dependant on living in groupes. Without belonging to a group, you go extinct. There is no absolute freedom for any human. In the real world, Finland and Sweden are as democratic as it gets in this world. And we have decided things like you have to pay taxes - and also serve in the military, if called upon. I think that is a very fair way of doing things. And as free as is realistically achieavable. We would have lost our freedom to Russia without the obligation to serve.

I'd spend some time there or recently and the people were so kind. It's such a beautiful country. I would say I'm sorry to them for what our countries did to each other kind of thing you know cuz what we did was pretty wrong there. If you look at the frontlines, Russia has gained ground but all they have really been able to do is consolidate their hold on Luhansk and the Donetsk territories. They have actually gained very little territory since the first two months of the war.

The media will have you believe their aim is to conquer all the land all the way up to the English channel, but according the the Russians, their primary aim is to "demilitarize Ukraine"... or at least that's what they say. In keeping with their stated aim then they're doing very well. In addition they're now grinding down NATO weapons, and NATO has no choice but to send more, precisely because the line haven't moved much, they see no off ramp and there're always some kind of hope, so they look for more money and more weapons, which diminishes NATO threat probably for years to come, and in turn makes their citizens very unhappy, so I suppose Russia is more than happy to keep this up.
