It’s all about the range…. The US has been reluctant to give longer range missiles for fear of Ukraine escalatory strikes deep inside Russia. BUT, as things stand, Russia is able to launch all these drone and missiles strikes from a safe standoff distance, out of range of Ukraine’s current weapons. Ukraine needs to be able to strike the Russian fire bases as its MUCH more effective to stop the missiles before launch than it is to intercept them as they’re inbound. And perhaps, more importantly, they need to be able to completely destroy the Kerch Bridge I order to cutoff supply lines into Crimea. And then to soften the military targets within Crimea prior to actually reclaiming offensive maneuvers. The current HIMARS lack the necessary range required for all of the above, whereas, the ATACAMS have exactly that.

Interesting take, always appreciate and enjoy General Hodges insight. Regarding his point on a potential logistic victory for Ukraine - as Russian troops retreat they are moving closer to their supply lines, while the Ukrainians move further away. This could result in the same challenges we saw earlier in the war where Ukraine had trouble getting Western weapons from Poland to the Donbas in time. Russian supply lines and depos would also be further away from artillery strikes that have hampered their logistics. I wonder if we will see a similar situation this time.

Indeed, there is no other alternative here than to push Ruskies completely out of Ukraine, including Crimea. It has to be done, because Putler is never going to stop/yield, the only thing he respects is force and there should be no fear about potential escalation because Putler knows he cant possibly win a war against the west/NATO and use of nuclear weapons would be suicide.

@WHS_reviews Ukraine has lost half of its NATO trained force so far, with zero results. Their two months long counteroffensive was a wet noodle. They will soon have no military left, Ukraine is FINISHED. They can splat nothing.

Eh. I think this is pretty optimistic. Ukraine is still short on a lot of advanced weaponry and ammunition. Ukraine is winning, but its a long tough fight. Russia will most likely do another mobilization, and can probably stall things well into 2024. Very long road ahead of Ukraine.

Where will they get sufficient vehicles from? How will they supply them? Canteens? Clothing? Rifles, ammo? The Russian tactic is to send in human waves, when they are mown down, send in the next. It’s WW1 tactics.

Agreed. To recover its territory, Ukraine needs heavy weapons - that means fighter jets, main battle tanks and APCs. And those are the kind of weapons President Biden has been unwilling to let Ukraine have so far, for fear of Putin escalating to tactical nuclear weapons.

I agree with you but recently more and more modern equipment has been delivered. Such as Iris, NASAMS soon Patriot. This will improve air defence capacities. Ukraine has modern communication equipment ans soon western equipment will be delivered from Frqnce, US, Germany. So they will be not so dependent on Soviet ammunition. But yes still this will take long time. Perhaps untill Russia will have significant bugdet deficits.
