Years ago I lived in a duplex beside an Ukrainian family. My then boyfriend loved to fish and often caught more than we needed, so instead of catch-n-release he started bringing them to that family. They responded by baking us beautiful breads, the first had been baked in a deer mold then egg washed so it looked like a statue. I actually didn't want to eat it, it was so amazing. It’s wild garlic season here in the UK. Free food is always the most delicious. Last year when I was collecting wild garlic in the woods I met a Danish couple who told me that in Denmark you can legally collect any growing food, anywhere, as long as it fits in your hat. A marvellous law for folk with huge heads.
@MrsSofieable2 жыл бұрын
That’s a fun fact 👒 :-) Is the wild garlic a green and long plant? In Belgium we have loads of that (and the whole woods smell like garlic) but I didn’t know you could eat it!
@jonathanfinan7222 жыл бұрын
@@MrsSofieable nope. The leafs are kind of like a spear tip, usually about 10/15 cm long. The older ones taste more like leek than garlic too. But if you’re in an area with them growing the smell is unmistakable. They tend to grow in shaded areas like woodland or river/canal banks. As always when foraging, be very careful and know your subject. Also, avoid the wild garlic right next to a foot path because the aroma gets dogs pissing.

Thank you for posting this video Emmy. I work for the European office of an international company and have colleagues at that same office who hail from many different countries. Two of my colleagues are heavily affected by the conflict: one has friends in Kyiv and the other one has family on both sides. It breaks my heart to see them so sad and worried (also, my own father was a war refugee so what we are seeing now is hitting close to home).The company in the building next to ours has a truck heading for the Ukrainian border every few days with sorted and donated goods. We all pitch in to send whatever we can miss or source to help those in need. Our company does more that I am not at liberty to say, and I’m proud of it. Throughout history bread has been and still is a symbol of welcome, peace, brotherhood, and sharing in countless cultures and this is the perfect recipe. Thank you.

I love baking bread........so many reasons why. First i think its a nice thing to share with your neighbors especially if you live in apartment building. Drives them all nuts......and of course they always want some. So its a way of showing a sense of otherness I suppose. It also feeds my soul when I bake bread.....calms me....soothes me.......and most importantly makes me feel productive. When you up in years...limited physically.....sometimes its hard to find ways to be or feel productive. I just realize I have some bread flour in my pantry......and haven't made any bread since I moved a few months ago. I live in a high rise senior building so I need to at least try to make a loaf.......and see what happens!!!! You are so cute.......I am short and little too........but less the active life I used to have. So its so much fun watching you.......and your quirky ways. You have a very unique sense of humor that is very healing to me. Glad I found you.....and look forward to watch more of your videos. Hopefully you have a recipe for cinnimon bread.!!!!! Hugs to you.

If you are from Ukraine, I’m so sorry this is happening😞 hopefully it ends soon. Nobody deserves this and it’s disgusting. And if someone hasn’t told you told today, I love you!!! #istandwithUkraine

I used to babysit for a Ukrainian family whilst at college. The grandma thought I was too skinny and would send me home with the most delicious leftovers I've ever had, but my favourite was a flask of borscht and some pampushky. I'd forgotten just how good it was until I watched this. May have to take a trip to the slavic grocer and try myself!

That looks amazing! I LOOOVE garlic and was recently lamenting about how they've cancelled this year's Gilroy Garlic Festival. The parsley, btw, helps prevent garlic odor seeping out your pores.

That's so heartwarming. I've been watching your videos for quite some time. You are such a positive and relaxing person. And it's super nice seeing the beautiful Ukrainian culture and cuisine celebrated. You could also make a palyanytsia. It became a huge meme because russians can't pronounce this word correctly. So now it's a way to expose saboteurs. Hi from Kyiv and take care❤️

You mentioned a sweet recipe. That looks exactly like a sweet brioche bread recipe my dear departed Mom used to make. She filled the insides with apricot jam. Absolutely scrumptious. I miss my Mom (& those little buns she used to bake for us with so much love 💗).

Dont know why but when she said " I'm going to put a little more garlic in the middle because that's how I roll" I thought what an adorable pun because she was eating a roll. Anyone else....or no..just me
