A Ukrainian woman has helped identify a Russian soldier who she says raped her while her village in Ukraine's Kyiv region was occupied by Russian forces. Investigators say they identified the suspect after he allegedly stole the victim's phone and used it.

This woman was lucky... in a way. She is alive to make her case, and if need be, assist in the gathering of additional supporting evidence. I am more concerned about the dead, those who were wronged but who cannot make their case before a tribunal, and those whose cases will be weakened before the tribunal because of faulty or incomplete investigations. The quality of any tribunal's judgement in war crimes cases is governed by the quality, veracity, extensiveness, and irrefutibility of the evidence presented by the prosecutors . If we want real justice, the quality of the incoming evidence must not be compromised. For rest assured that when all these war crimes cases come before the tribunal in the Hague (or elsewhere?) the defense lawyers for the Russian war crime perperators and the various russian "amicus curiae" will do everything they can to downgrade, bypass, or ignore the evidence presented against their clients. They must not succeed!
