James, would you give brief description of what is added to jazz course that increases difficulty, please. Intro was so helpful and inspiring.
@jameshillmusiq3 жыл бұрын
Sure, Mary. Chapter 1 is bluesy and fairly straight-ahead material. Chapter 2 dives into songs that have less-predictable, more angular chord progressions. Chapter 3 is all about improvisation and Chapter 4 is called "Anything Goes" for a reason! There's a full course outline here: www.uketropolis.com/jazz (scroll to the bottom of the page to the FAQ section).

@lydiawallace90223 жыл бұрын
Hello James, thanks so much for that. I'm on Booster Uke and now I'll have the wonderfully agonizing choice of this or the Ukulele Way afterwards. Life used to be so simple. If you get a chance I'd love to know why 1) B flat major 7 sounds so mournful if it's a jolly major. And 2) Why they are called the Two Five. Thanks again! Lydia
@akiya92163 жыл бұрын
Bit late, but the Bb major 7 is like a Bb major chord on the bottom, and a D minor chord on top. Major doesn't really mean happy, since it's the context that makes it sound happy. At lot of people will hear a minor 7 chord and say it sounds alot happier than a major 7, bcoz of the the way the top notes are major.
@akiya92163 жыл бұрын
Its called a 2 5 because in the scale, the chords are the second or fifth chords in the scale, and this common little set of chords make the bread and butter for alot of jazz

As a guitar player i understand this method as an inversion of chord because uke have less strings than guitar and their tuning is higher so, the lowest note not always the root note.. it can be their triads or their extention (ex. 6th or 7th or 9th).. IMHO

4:30 I am sorry, but I cannot understand why this is an F9. If the notes are A-Eb-G-C , we are talking about an Am7(5b) or a Cm6. The Eb note does not belong to F9. Is this right?

C6 was open string (0:55) but Cm7 has a similar finger pattern (3:34). Should it be called differently? Please explain.
@travo68053 жыл бұрын
C6 and Am7 have the same notes. The only difference is that in a C6 chord, the bass note is C, whereas in Am7, the bass note is A. On ukelele, there is generally not a concern about which note is on bottom so the two chords are essentially the same thing. If the naming were up to me then I would call it Am7/C instead of C6, the name is confusing
