I am 57 year old disabled lady, who has just taken up playing the ukulele, I can not tell you how much of difference it has made to my life. You guys are an inspiration to me. I am hoping one day I can come and watch you play live. Am learning to play via tabs, do you all play by reading music or tab for ? I would guess you play by reading music. I will try and learn to read music, I guess I need to find a book, who deals with totally beginners. I would love to find a group of people who love to play the ukulele. Thanks for keeping me inspired. Love and best wishes Sarah.xXx.

Hi! I’m in my 60s and trying to learn the uke. Totally new to making music. Wonderful, free lessons are on you tube from Bernadette Teaches Music. Her 30 day lesson plan got me off the ground. Now, if I just had a sense of rhythm 🤔. Enjoy! Stay safe❤️

TAB is fine for the vast majority of people. Reading is a fine skill to have but not essential. Try to memorize pieces and have the tab as a back up. It is better to feel the music that way. Make each piece your own. Your local music shop should be able to tell you about groups in your area. Or start your own. Ours was called Ukeholics Anonymous. I'm happy to answer questions and help in any way.

Start your own club! In the 1920's there used to be "mandolin orchestras" composed of mandolins, mandolas, mandocellos, & upright bass mandolins. In recent history dulcimer clubs have been popular. Not limited to dulcimers, these clubs would welcome any acoustic instruments. Ukelele clubs can be the next big thing, lol.

So is a wooden spoon and mom's pots and pans. Don't forget humming through wax paper around a comb. Hendrix used that on "Crosstown Traffic," so virtually everyone can cover a Hendrix riff.

The next time someone swallows water down the wrong windpipe, have them put their hands behind their neck and tell them to pull their elbows back. This opens up the airway and it's easier for the body to gain control much more quickly. (We do this all day with patients in the hospital and it saved an older gentleman's life in Cracker Barrel once when he started choking like this and I happened to be sitting at the next table.) It's a simple and easy thing to do without drawing a huge amount of attention to one's self. (Which is why we use it often. Not everybody likes the spotlight when they're struggling to regain control to breathe).

Once I went to see Johnny & June before they were married, you could tell they loved to perform on stage together. This was in Norfolk.Va. Well someone in the audience insisted Johnny do Orange Blossom & you could tell Johnny didn’t want to. He finally said he’d do the song only if someone in the audience he needed to borrow a harmonica but it had to be in certain key. Of course no one did but I thought how wonderful you did have one & got back a harmonic a that Johnny Cash had actually played.

To me this seems 'unusual' but, by Gad, its bl**dy entertaining too! Such great musicianship...And I didn't realise that there was such a thing as a Bass Yuke! :-) I wonder what George Formby would have made of this?...
@michelledaley553 жыл бұрын
They lower the 4th string to a low G from a guitar in some cases. Formby had no speakers to send the sound out so that's why he put the uke to a banjo uke as it was loud. Not sure how may others he did this too.
