Correction: the Chopper you use for Flame Leviathan does not yet have the Grab Pyrite ability in pre-nerf Ulduar, but will later on down the line Additions: Forgot to mention Razorscale's Flame Buffet that increases fire damage taken, stacks, and lasts for 1 minute. If you start with Ignis, you don't have to worry about this debuff having time left on it while starting Ignis trash Guardians in Phase 1 Yogg now mind control in addition to the other abilities Defeaning Scream in Phaee 3 Yogg also silences for 3 seconds on 25 man

Seriously amazing and detailed guide, I appreciate you taking the time to explain each ability, the damage it does, how it affects the raid and all the accompanying mechanics rather than the simple: "do X when Y happens, position here, because just trust me, etc." Too many lesser prepared groups will just try to copy paste strats then have no idea how to deal with all the nuanced situations and bad RNG that can throw a wrench into things. It's so helpful to have that extra information so you can make adjustments on the fly and really understand what happened and how to fix it when wiping. If you don't have that extra layer of knowledge then you're basically just banging your head against a wall with each pull, and that will 100% lead to frustrated raiders leaving, and ultimately a wasted lock out. Do your homework people, and good luck in Ulduar.

If healers are having issues keeping you up, you can definitely kite the surge if necessary. But you should have a CD available for all of them

This game was hard enough playing as a humanoid, now we have to master vehicle operations???!!! I would have been destroyed in this place without this guide. I may have to watch this several times just to get past the first boss, the Flame Leviathan. I had no idea that the upper raids in the Wrath of the lich King got anywhere near this sophisticated and complicated; the first battle is basically having to learn a completely new system. Big Bang goes through immunities but prot pally can do it with Ardent Defender. Some other options are earth/fire elemental totem in 10 man, any tank using a big CD, or a rogue. It's easiest if the rogue is subtlety but any rogue can do it if they get a hand of sac and use feint + glyph of cloak of shadows

I have a question. When you say go full mitigation does this mean I shld sacrifice as much str, hit, and expertise as I can in favor for stam and defense stats? Or am I over thinking the statement and I shld keep a healthy amount of threat/ dps stats while just leaning more towards Stam and defense

Yah sacrifice the threat stats in favor of as much hp, armor, bv, etc as you can get. Number 1 goal as a tank is staying alive, and that's a lot more difficult to do in Ulduar compared to phase 1 raids. My expertise is usually soft cap anyway with SOV glyph, but I have been running 3-5% hit most of the time on ptr without any threat issues

Because of the debuff from Razorscale, doing ignis before Razorscale is advisable. It lasts for a long time.

It doesn't stack with other speed increases but the movement speed boot enchants are only 8%

Do you think the higher damage of Vezax on 25 compared to 10man will allow for a prot pally MT without the need for a special spec or glyphs?

It turns out that mana is more of an issue in 25m because Vezax casts more spells and doesn't auto during those times. He meleed 177 times in a 6:37 fight on 10m classic.warcraftlogs.com/reports/Tm3FPh1WQZLdpx4D#fight=67&type=damage-taken&source=3&ability=1 and 123 times in a 7:06 fight on 25m classic.warcraftlogs.com/reports/N1F23VA4xJMa6rRv#fight=39&type=damage-taken&source=15&ability=1 The damage itself is similar but with way fewer swings, it's more common to have mana issues when you go on an avoidance streak

Yah both are very easy to solo tank. Haven't personally tried on a DK, but can't imagine they'd have any issue

Question buddy. For 10 man week 1. How many bosses and which do you think is safe to attempt on hard mode? Most of our 10 man is 210+ ilvl and we got DK/Pally tank combo and Disc/Paladin or Paladin/Druid healing combos

Iron Council, Thorim, and Freya are the easiest ones. Hodir isn't too bad if your OT and one of the healers have a good dps spec for it. Yogg 1 should be doable for you -- most of the prog is just people learning the fight in general, not the actual 1 keeper part. XT, Vezax, and Mimiron I probably wouldn't bother with unless you guys have tons of time. I didn't actually try Flame Leviathan on PTR, but probably not super worthwhile to spend time on week 1 when the vehicle stuff is brand new to everyone

personally i had problems with the adds in arena by thorim i just couldnt keep the aggro lost it everytime when dds started to attack any tipps?

Have everyone group up in the middle so you aren't running all over trying to pick everything up. Focus on picking up the adds that aren't the Commoners first, as those ones are more dangerous. Then pick up commoners. Spam taunts as needed and do as much AOE threat as you can. It's not a huge deal if some dps take hits from the Commoners

I was having an issue where Ignis adds would not follow me into the water. They would just stand at the water's edge, staring at me for like, 2 or 3 full seconds before dropping threat and going after a healer or dps, and I'd have to chase them again. This made collecting new adds very difficult. Any ideas?

I've ran with a couple as OTs and they're totally fine. Prot pally is definitely on a level above all other tanks for early Ulduar, which is probably the main reason you aren't seeing a ton of blood dks. But I think a lot of guilds will run them as OTs

Has anyone been able to Grab Pyrite on a chopper? Noone in my guild has been able to use or even SEE the ability. I thought it was just a bug on the PTR but it persisted into the release, so maybe it's just the wiki info that's wrong and the ability is not supposed to be there?

Hey welcome! There are a few exceptions to the no mana regen mechanic on this fight. Prot pallies can still gain mana back from Spiritual Attunement and Blessing of Sanctuary

I have them on a hidden bar but heroic strike is F and cleave is shift+f for me. You could try a mouse with extra buttons too if you don't like the modifier keybinds

For 10m Igniss, are you just ignoring the adds mechanic and tanking them if your Solo tanking it? Was hard to tell on the vid.

Yah for any ignis solo tank you'll just taunt the adds or get them MDed to you as they spawn and hang onto them the rest of the fight. Dont have to worry about heating them up/breaking them at all

You’re salving the other tank for agalon taunt swaps? The glyph is “when you cast Hand of Salvation on yourself, it also reduces damage taken by 20%” meaning he has to salv himself for that 20% mit
