One of the worst places on earth is Qatar and that is all natural dust 5) PM count will rise during dry periods and fall during rain. 6) Before the clean air act the fogs in London killed thousands, there is no argument. Blaming cars is somewhat true, but as the EURO standards were released PM counts reduced. 7) How do you clean the tunnel, install positive ventilation with air scrubbers... But that is lots of money 8) how do you reduce the pollution in cities. Plant trees and re-green the right of way. Councils look for any reason to chop down trees as they cost money to look after. 9) Yes the ULEZ scheme is a rip off tax burden. 10) London is shithole, why anyone wants to live there Ill never know.

I was in an Underground train when there was a breakdown or something ahead of us. We were stuck in the tunnel for 2 hours. Middle of Summer, back in 1992 or 93 (drought year), tourist season, every carriage packed solid. It was hot as hell. Apparently, there is talk of ventilating the Underground (talk, talk, talk). I expect that means the fares will shoot up, even though the fares have always been way too high for the standard of travel conditions.

The trees in London are very badly planted and looked after. It's about time they did away with the usual planting of a tree in a hole in the pavement, and considered consolidating avenues of lollipop trained rees together in fenced borders, so they are all together, creating a proper microclimate in one place, with some bushes and flowers underneath to increase the amount of greenery (making the bushes thorned so they don't invite homeless to camp in them and crush everything). It's sad how many people disrespect planted areas in London. During the Olympics, my husband saw people sitting in the flower borders. They cost millions to create and plant, yet tourists just trampled the living daylights out of them.

There is a big problem that no one seems to be talking about with the government desperately trying to get us out of cars. Truck driver's. Who is going to do it, the average age of a truck driver is 56 at the moment. There are very few younger people coming into the industry as it is. If you discourage people from getting into cars,no one is going to wake up one morning and think I know I want to be a truck driver. I have worked in the training industry since 2007 and things are dire at the moment and are only going to get worse

Great video again, Geoff. Shahzad Sheikh the Brown Car Guy you may know on KZbin did and excellent two part video of London air quality and came up with pretty much the same results. From memory I think underground air quality was 400% higher in particulates, probably brake dust I suspect. As you will know its also incredibly inefficient to drive at 20 mph. Cars are not designed for it, so no doubt microman Noddy Khans policies make good air quality worse. He should stick to goats. He probably knows a lot more about those.

A Khan supporter said the data at the Londonair website which shows the air quality is 'good', after I pointed it out to them, wasn't 'accurate enough'. And then they pointed me to the macro analysis which depends on diffusion tubes mounted near the kerbside to 'catch' Nitrogen Dioxide. I downloaded the data from the tubes together with the WHO 'safe levels' report. QUICK SUMMARY - Safe limit = 40 (ug/m^3) , average reading = 44. The diffusion tube report contains a calculator to predict the reduction over time and with the distance from the roadside. RESULTS - if you spend 12 hours or more at the kerbside of just the busiest London roads then you might exceed the safe absorption level. BUT - the WHO safe limit is for 'long term exposure', so you need to do it every day for it to be dangerous ALSO - at 10m or more further away from the kerb you are safe ALSO 2 - the long term forecast is for the levels to reduce ALL BY THEMSELVES to 40 or lower within 3 years I smell the misuse of data

Howard Cox has taken multiple readings in the Tube using that same meter. Others have also taken multiple readings. The results were horrendous. Surface readings were all fine even next to traffic. These results have all been suppressed. They were broadcast on Talk TV but were suppressed. Howard has also initiated the Fairfuel UK movement. He was a candidate for London Mayor but got a poor result despite his campaigning with Fairfuel UK, frequent appearances on Talk TV and GB News and involvment with Together Declaration. The reason has been suppression of him on MSM. The MSM wanted Sadiq and most people only really knew of him. He's a disaster and I rarely go into London now.

I've lived in London over 2 decades, and can vouch that while the volume of traffic has not decreased, the air quality definitely has improved- at least next to the roads. Tubes are a different matter- I avoid as much as possible. The elephant in the room re:air quality is the inside of buildings. I worked in a "sick building" for years and had detrimental health outcomes as did other staff working there. I firmly believe children in London are suffering adverse health due to the impacts of the buildings they live in. This will be ignored until it usefully serves some larger ideological agenda

Most of the particulate matter on the underground will be wear from the rails and the train wheels/brake dust. Most of the particulate matter found in the tests performed prior to ULEZ showed that the particulate matter in London air was mostly brake dust and worn tyre rubber, not exhaust emissions. The research shows electric cars wear tyres much faster the ICE cars due to the weight of the batteries. They'll also wear brakes at much the same rate as ICE cars. So EV's won't help lower air pollution, and the air pollution on roads isn't as bad as that on tubes...so what was the point of ULEZ? Certainly wasn't for 'air quality'....

I researched this earlier this year. I compared Oslo and London's Pm2.5, Pm10 and No2 measurements which are freely available. What i saw was a steady decline for both cities for all measurements from the last 10 to 15 years. I assume this is because car emissions have become much better. What i didn't see in Oslo was a sharp drop, which is what i was expecting since Olso has restricted cars so much and has so many EV's. London has hardly any EV's. The only real difference was a slightly lower No2 measurment in Oslo. Other than that they were almost identical in thier rate of decline. Considering how much money, restrictions and EV forcing there is in Norway i find it hard to see the justification for it when comparing the stats.

I definitely agree that the particulate readings on the underground are far too high, and something needs to be done urgently about this. However, the ULEZ zone was never really about particulates, it's about NOx emissions, which those instruments don't measure.

As you come into London from the west on the A40 look down at the 'Traveller' site which has been there for decades. Surrounded 360 degrees by dual carriageway. Diesel particulates all day, every day for decades. Where is the lung disease amongst these people? It should be sky high.

there’s been a road in sheffield closed to everything but buses because it was the most polluted road in the city centre… why’s it so polluted? all the buses that start and stop there. Now us normal car drivers have to drive around and get stuck in traffic - polluting more - while the buses still belch out their fumes. just to ploy to up pollution counts so they can start to charge cars like the ULEZ. i’m buying an 80s saab that’ll be exempt - stuff em

Definitely a scam. None of this daily charge nonsense in Europe. Drove to Paris last year and all I needed was a 1 off purchase of a sticker that was cheap, and it was a case of with the sticker my vehicle either met their emissions requirements or it didn’t.:: if it didn’t then I could still enter Paris but outside of 8am to 8pm. No extortionate daily charge.

Air quality in the ulez area worse then surrounding polluted boroughs,also Glasgow they have found this is the case too,so geause what we extend the ulez zones , misery and hardship caused perfectly good cars and vans have to go,and council coffers fill from ill gotten gains.

I had a heart attack about 6 years ago. At the time I was cycling the 7 miles to work at a riding stables. So I was fairly fit. But I got bit on the tit by a particularly psycho stallion on the Wednesday. I had bruising across my chest and back. At about 3 am of the Saturday morning I awoken feeling a bit odd. Walked to the kitchen to get a glass of water and collapsed. Came to about 15 minutes later. Thought "I think I may need to get checked out." So walked a mile to a neighbours house and woke them up. They took me to hospital, where they confirmed that I'd had a heart attack. Caused by 2 of the arteries going into the heart being 90% blocked. Apparently this had nothing to do with the internal bleeding and bruising caused by the horse bite, and everything to do with me being a smoker. Full on medical bullshit as usual. I spent the week before Christmas in hospital and had stents shoved up my arm and installed into the arteries by my heart. I went back to work 3 weeks later. Cycling still as I couldn't afford a car. Then I got flu. So had another week off. Back to work again. Still cycling. But an awful lot slower than before. I had to keep stopping to get oxygen back in the blood. I got to work that morning half hour late. The boss saw me and said "I think you need to find another job." I thought "thanks for that!" Worked a full day, and never returned. Since then I've survived doing odd jobs and gardening. Even through the scamdemic. Was forced to have jabs so I could go into hardware shops etc. Never got COVID. Known plenty who have. Mainly those who've had boosters. Idiots! Just my opinion, as I never wanted the shots in the first place. But the reason for this ramble was your lines about being late for work after a heart attack. Yep it was just like that. Treated as a mere annoying inconvenience by my employer. They forgot that I have feet. And I bloody well use them to get away from assholes who aren't worth the breath they breathe. Keep up the singing. It's good for the spirit.

Rent Spaceballs' giant vacuum cleaner :) Failing that, adding a couple of exhaust ventilation towers to suck all of the air and dust to tunnel mid-spans and blow it outside so it doesn't accumulate in waiting areas, halls, tunnels, etc. and get stirred back up into the air whenever a subway train arrives or leaves would help.
