That looks like a long range shooters dream location use have there.. Excellent shooting none the less. The Americans have a full team of around 20 people, almost perfect weather conditions to make the 4300 yard shot... And then you have Mark and Sam going for 5000 METERS with all there own gear and setup and missing by a few meters.. 2018 will be the new record set by you guys. Well Done 👍

Hello Mark, I have the same type of problem where I shoot late in the year. Dry as a popcorn fart but covered in cheat grass. Blue Chalk is sold in 50 pound bags one bag will cover a 50 by 50 ft area really well. It will puff perfectly and rinses away once water hits it so it is environment friendly. Just remember your shoes and lower pant leg. A lawn spreader works well distributing it.

@markandsamafterwork7 жыл бұрын
That's not the shot, that sound is the sonic boom as the bullet slows back through the speed of sound around 3000 meters from the rifle, the actual shot sound doesn't travel much past 1500 yards from the rifle, Cheers

As an infantryman I would like to say the farthest hitting weapon I have available to me is the Tow 2B anti tank weapon. It is a tubular launched wire guided missile that has a max range of 3750 meters. That being said, most would be very hard pressed to hit inside a 2 ft by 2 ft square at 3000 meters let a lone 3750. You are hitting that 2 ft square Target at over 5k yard. Absolutely insane. Have you given any thought to teaching say at Ft. Benning Ga? You are an absolute asset. I'm lost for words. You two are awesome.

Interesting. I'm not a shooter anymore but this is the first time I've heard of a Gibbs model rifle in many years. This is only the 2nd time I've ever even heard of a Gibbs, but then I'm not in the sport anymore either.

Ah well, in this distance shot the bullet travels well above (hundreds of feet) the ground winds, so given the ground winds and mid level (100 to 300 feet in the air) winds are very different, all those suggestions although good for target shooting in medium to normal long range, really of no help with these ELR/ULR shots, hope that helps explain, we have videos on the subject but that the basic's, Cheers

If you shoot any farther, those 375's will need a passport! Fantastic, I have got to think that wind at those ranges presents a great challenge, one that is difficult to account for. I did a little crazy experiment and tried to do some off hand shooting in strong wind. Even at 70 yards, the wind pushed my body enough that I could not get a consistent site picture. I got on target a few times when the gusts died down. I hunt near a large lake in Northern Ontario and it can get really windy, and I wanted to know my limitations with regards to off hand shooting in the wind. I think that is so important while hunting.

You may have covered this in a previous video and I hope my question makes sense. When the projectile leaves the barrel it's in a nose-up attitude. As it goes along its path on its trajectory towards the target does that attitude change and go nose-over along the path or does it continue with its original nose-up attitude throughout its trajectory?

Can't say for sure but I think these bullets travel in an arc. Here is a video to help explain what we know at the moment. kzbin.info/www/bejne/qWfNaYJjp6iZe8U Cheers

A hopefully not too silly question: Assuming a constant 1 m/s cross wind component and some 15 sec flight time. Do you aim 15 m into the wind ? How do you cope with Earth rotation during flight time? Using tables with geographic shooting orientation and target distance ?
@markandsamafterwork6 жыл бұрын
Well there are multiple winds, changing all the time, the main reason why this is so difficult, but the rotation of there earth is a constant so not a problem after sighting your first impact, Cheers
