Thank you TOTAL KUNT, and for being the first comment on this feed. When I saw the original title of this video, my first immediate band that came to mind was Grand Funk Railroad. How the hell do these douche bags fail to mention them. A lot of these lists have honourable mentions. They should have included them here. Thumbs up for including Steppenwolf, and on the subject of them and their immortal hit (Born to be wild), there are 2 other bands in a similar boat that deserve a mention for being known, mostly anyway, for one song, and that is Golden Earring and Blue Oyster Cult. There are loads more bands that deserve a mention, but I would like to give mention to KINGS X. They will never make the RnR HOF, because they were so ignorantly snubbed by virtually everyone but not so for many musicians and bands such as Richie Blackmore (Oh hes been snubbed too hasn't he), Motley Crue (Oh they have too) and even Pearl Jam (Oh but they HAVEW been inductedI believe). I mean, how can you explain massively influential progressive rock bands such as The Moody Blues, Yes, King Crimson, Jethro Tull and Emerson, Lake and Palmer to not make it? IMO, progressive rock is the best subgenre of rock. Prog rock, more than any other rock subgenre, has widened the horizons of songwriting, composition and creativity in not just rock music but music in general that I feel it's blasphemous to not include its most influential artists.

@mrhoffame8 жыл бұрын
I think all those bands you mentioned MORE than deserve to be in. At the same time you can't knock NWA. In the world of music we have to admit, in 1992 NWA's Straight Outta Compton and Nirvana's Nevermind changed the world of music in a way we had not seen since the The Beatles. There are very few moments in the history of music where we get to see the landscape change on a dime. Grunge and Gangster rap crushed EVERYTHING with just the release of those two albums. IMO of course lol. What do you think?
@ronandlanadisorda20018 жыл бұрын
Both of the groups you mention may have changed things, but not for the better. It's not a coincidence that neither of these groups are still around.
@jeffreycpalmer20608 жыл бұрын
Neither group may be still around, but both today still had a major influence/impact on music. NWA & Nirvana were probably the biggest groups to come out of the '90's. NWA much like Tupac Shakur rapped about issues that everyone was too afraid to talk about. They brought issues to the mainstream that the media kept hidden. Kurt Cobain was to his generation in the early '90's like Jim Morrison was to the late '60's & early '70's. Nirvana literally changed the music scene & spoke for a generation. Around a time where hair bands were the big thing Nirvana literally shook up the music scene. In Utero & Nevermind were not only the biggest selling albums of the '90's, but also considered to be among the biggest selling albums of all-time. Even today look around & Nirvana paraphernalia is still sold everywhere. The anniversary of Cobain's death is still talked about every year. He was grunge music. 22 years later & their music still continues to sell. I look at them in popularity as being the modern day Beatles.
@mrhoffame8 жыл бұрын
Jeffrey C Palmer That is what I have always said about Nevermind and Straight Outta Compton. Typically when music "Changes" it is a gradual new thing/trend and fades in while something else slowly fades out. Those two albums are one of the few times in music that you ever got to see the clear starting pointing and ending point in a matter months. Not since The Beatles. The impact of those two albums come a long only once in a lifetime for most must fans. NOT saying they are the greatest albums ever, but I'm saying the impact they had on the world of music you just don't get to more than every few decades.
@jeffreycpalmer20608 жыл бұрын
I'll agree that both aren't the greatest of all-time, but still had a major impact on music during that time & Nevermind has influenced a number of today's artists. Anyone who thinks that Nirvana never had an impact on the music scene needs to look at that time. Although there were many great Grunge bands at that time it was Nirvana that really helped it to become mainstream. The fact that Grunge music pretty much died out not too long after Kurt Cobain died is enough to show what kind of influence he really had on that genre. Even their Unplugged In New York album is one of the best albums & showed how versatile they really were. Who knows where music would be today if Kurt Cobain was still alive today. They're still releasing stuff like "Live In Reading" which came out in 2009 & Montage Of Heck which was released in 2015.

Neil Sedaka - who wrote dozens upon dozens of early Rock classics, then had a major comeback in the 70's. His inspiration gave us some of the greatest Pop-Rock classics for several decades. Olivia Newton-John - in the 70's, no female singer reigned higher. Sure, a lot will say "she's not Rock" - but a lot have never heard "It'll Be Me," "Magic," "My Old Man's Got a Gun," and most of the Totally Hot and Physical albums. Plus, she was a pioneer of the video revolution in the early 80's, making the first platinum selling longform music video for her album Physical. And, who could deny those skin-tight leather pants in Grease??? The Raspberries are considered the greatest Power Pop band of the 70's, and Eric Carmen even was a strong supporter of the R&RHOF in the early process, releasing the song "The Rock Stops Here" to raise funding for the museum. He and his band of Cleveland legends should most definitely be there. Electric Light Orchestra - is Jeff Lynne NOT one of the greatest Rock producers of all-time??? Duh - this is a MAJOR oversight.

Any REAL rock fan that doesn't have some illness induced by The Rock and Roll Hall of Fame and Lame is uniformed or isn't a REAL rock fan. They should change the name of this place to represent what it really is (like MTV shouldn't be called that anymore either). Foreigner, Scorpions, Steve Miller Band(don't believe they're in), Mott the Hoople. etc etc. Pretty spot on list though. I love all types of music but STOP PUTTING IN NON R & R PEOPLE IN THE HALL ! :-)
@assemblyguy10 жыл бұрын
You are right, it should have been called the Music Hall Of fame, with numerous genre exhibits. But the truth is, the majority of the RRHOF is Rock. If you haven't been you should go. It is both impressive and dull at the same time. I spent a few hours there, no photography permitted in the actual exhibit portion really sucked and ruined what would have been a great time for memories. Although that did not stop everybody form snapping shots. You can, however, snap pics in the front free access public area. Since I went, the rules had changed for photos.. I may return one day, but not likely for a long long time if ever. BTW, it really is the only reason to visit Cleveland.

Suggesting who should go in only serves to help them fool more people into thinking its relevant. It should be called the Cleveland Music Museum. None of the owners who privately choose inductees qualify for that role in the rock world. Their opinions don’t mean anything to rock musicians or fans. It’s simply not acknowledged as a legit Hall and never will be. As many legends of rock who went along at their agents request say, they regret going because people mistook their attendance with acknowledging it as a hall. They resent their name be used by the owners in attempt to legitimize the place as something of significance beyond a. minor publicity event in Ohio.

Exactly. Forget the influence they had on virtually every hard rock band from the 60s to the 90s and all the guys like Gary Moore and John Sykes who cut their teeth in Lizzy... Speaking of Deep Purple. Richie Blackmore should also be inducted on his own or with Rainbow. One of the most highly influential guitarist in the post 67 era rock era. Integrated classical stylings to what was mostly blues based playing, sweep picking, snake charmer scale and Rainbow was truly the foundation of the modern heavy metal movement

They did change music, perhaps not in the way many would like. If it is really just rock and roll their would be a lot artists in that would not have made it.
@leathercoatguy4 жыл бұрын
If rock n roll is in part attitude as much as it is about the music, NWA definitely met that criteria. Sure it wasn't rock per se, but it took the same guts and gumption to tell the industry to go fuck itself and do things their own way just like any rock band would.

i can agree with most of this list. Especiallu Yes and Deep Purple. I'd add the Moody Blues and Jethro Tull first and some of the other influential prog bands like ELP and King Crimson. Also ELO, Kansas, Supertramp and Procil Harum. I have no problem with Maiden and Priest getting in as they sure as hell should have been in long before Nirvana and Green Day, lol. Also THE MONKEES need to be in. They were not a FAKE band. And Michael Nesmith is an influential a songwriter and musician in the history of modern music (he basically invented MTV/The Music Video for example).

@@jasondiamond7737 they have always played their own instruments. That “didnt play their own instruments” was just another thing mainstream media back then said to sell some paper just like when they said Paul McCartney was dead without confiriming it lol. When they fired Don, they had creative control over what they would sing. They wrote their own songs starting then and even written and directed on some of the Monkees episodes. The Monkees started as a fake band who then stood up to the man and became a real band to prove people wrong. If that’s not rock and roll, I don’t know what is.

This museum is misnamed & as a result its roster looks phony. It should have been named the Pop Music Hall of Fame. It's full of artists that never played a note of rock, and missing many important rock artists. That's the reason the fans get frustrated with the inductees. Ironically, the museum would not have gotten off the ground as well when it opened during rock's heyday had it been named the Pop Music Hall of Fame, but would have been better off today as rock n roll as a genre no longer rules the charts. It changed it's formula to include artists outside of rock to broaden it's appeal to a larger audience, but never bothered to mention it to the fans hoping no one would notice their sleight of hand moving away from rock's diminishing share of the market. The roster looks phony to rock fans because it is.

One band that truly need to be in the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame is the band, FREE!!! Front man Paul Rogers and now deceased bass player Andy Fraser wrote a couple of 60' to 70's iconic songs , Alright Now and Fire and Water. Just one of my favorite bands from back in the day. Another band that is missing from my short list is the Los Angles based band Love ,featuring singer/songwriter Arthur Lee. Oh, and not to mention Bad Company, Paul Rodgers and Free's drummer Simon Kirk formed this band after the break up of the band Free. Well, there you have it, my short list for forgotten iconic bands of the past.
