Composer: "How can we truly embody the feeling of every battle being a grinding, monotonous chore?"

I still hear this in my sleep and I stopped playing it in 1991.

Yep, still hearing this song. May as well play it at my funeral too.

played this game once, on an emulator probably a couple years ago just to see what it was about. Dicked around for a while, eventually getting into a battle and not understanding anything and quitting pretty much immediately. Flash forward to today, I see someone on the internet talking about the NES version of Ultima III's battle music so I put this one on just because why not. And instantly recognized it. Even though my encounter with it was probably only a good 10 seconds 😂

All this memory reminds me of, is being stuck in that horrible cave northeast of britania, and getting slain by monsters in the cave, or spending hours killing ghouls skeletons and orcs.Truth be told, i wasn't scared at overworld monsters, unless i accidentally leveled up and evil bandersnatches started to run after me, and giants and balrogs.I remember not being prepared and dying.I have to say that this is without a doubt one of the most evil games ever, because it screws you over.

The lone wizard in the back casts Destroy. Lightning flashes, and the air whines this shrill scream... and suddenly, inexplicably, the hordes of demons before you begin to drop to the ground, dead and unmoving. Why is it all these newer games can't capture my imagination the way simple games like Ultima Exodus could?

in the original versions, that spell is explicitly not referred to by name because its name is part of its casting--and when it's cast, people die.

I honestly think there were more civilian classes than monster ones in this game. There are like ~25 monsters or something, not sure if civilians hit that, but they are pretty damn close. From what I understand the PC version has more monsters in it. The NES version does have unused data for some of the missing monsters though, one of which is even completely functional if I recall right.

When your cleric and wizard reach crazy levels before your physical guys and then your physical guys proceed to get wrecked by the higher level monsters. Years later when you learn the best party is a cleric and 3 wizards.

Yup all ranged combat, just needed that cleric to heal the wizards, lol.

I never played this game and yet this song has been stuck in my head for years. I love it, but I didn't realize it was actually this short/limited lol. I imagined it sounding nicer, maybe I could form it into a song?

I can picture those exact sounds, oh the nostalgia!

For some reason this was in my head first thing when I woke up and I haven't played this game in many many years and didn't even like the game. But now this tune oit of nowhere!! Whats wrong with me?

I also remember being nervous about running around ambrosia, and accidentally running into a demon and getting killed.Nowadays, i know the game well enough to beat it.First timers won't know to buy hourglasses or gems and stock up on slings or silver bows to kill enemies, and when they finally encounter a demon, they will pay dearly.They also won't know you have to buy stats, because unlike conventional games, you have to buy your stats.
@DrewPicklesTheDark6 жыл бұрын
Yeah that took me forever to figure out as a kid.
@piromaniac99993 жыл бұрын
@Josh Ednoff fuck that i use the cheap way every time i play, which is just kill low level monsters until i have enough to fully load up on blowguns and bows and armor then fully load up again for food and enough money to max out stats. Stealing is for chumps, and it takes forever.

I feel like if I ever got into a fight again (which I do not intend to) I would want someone jamming this on distorted electric guitar while it happened.

Game was so freaking hard lol, Lord British's D&D inspired Ultima, so WRPG > JRPG woohoo! (yeah I know ultima was MADE in Japan, but it was still a western creation).
